The event was traced to La Nina weather patterns, according to Professor Janet Davies, head of the allergy research group at Queensland University of Technology, and the country was supposed to attend one. Thousands of people were rushed to hospital after the last major thunderstorm asthma festival in Melbourne in 2016, many who had never been diagnosed with asthma (left, stock image) and ten of whom died.
