He is hoping to become the UK's first Eurovision winner since 1997 after overcoming his ordeal of being bullied at school to find fame and success as both a singer and an actor. Alexander, 33, from Harrogate in North Yorkshire, released two albums which got to number one with his band Years & Years and also won acclaim for his performance in Channel 4 drama It's A Sin. But there has been controversy in the build-up to this Saturday's Eurovision final being staged in the Swedish city of Malmo. Alexander has attracted attention with remarks made about Israel as well as his latest comments about the Union Jack flag.
