A former West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City footballer has been jailed after harassing his ex-girlfriend and her family in a bitter row over his child. James Hurst, 32, 'bombarded' his former partner with abusive calls, texts and emails, some of which were in breach of a non-molestation order. The defender, who lives in Sutton Coldfield, also made 'false' allegations about her brother in law's farm business in a Tripadvisor review when he refused his offer of money to get involved and targeted her mother who had acted as a 'go between' for the pair. Prosecutor Maninder Chaggar stated Hurst and his former partner split in November 2023 and have a child together who was the subject of 'long and protracted' child arrangement proceedings in the family court. She said Hurst was 'unhappy' with the terms of a court order which resulted in a number of 'very serious incidents'. But Hurst, representing himself at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, made a number of counter allegations against his former partner claiming she had been physically abusive to him and stolen money from his account.

Ilonka Knes, 82, was discovered just a short distance away from her home on Tuesday after going missing in October when Hurricane Ian struck Florida. Knes and her husband, who died during the Category 4 hurricane, spent the time in Fort Myers. A waste removal firm discovered her body 'deep inside the mangroves.'
