Everton are reportedly at risk of beginning the Premier League season with yet another points deduction. The Toffees were hit with a staggering 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) last November for an infraction in the 2021-22 season. The deduction was slashed to six points after an appeal, only for Everton to be docked two further points in April for overspending in the 2022-23 campaign.

Everton have announced the £17m capture of Irish centre-back Jake O'Brien after the 23-year-old signed a four-year contract at Goodison Park following his move from Ligue 1 side Lyon. O'Brien - who won his first Ireland cap against Hungary in June, playing alongside Everton captain Seamus Coleman in a 2-1 win - is the club's fifth signing of the summer following the loan return of Leeds winger Jack Harrison and arrivals of midfielder Tim Iroegbunam and forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom.
