Jacob "Jake" Dalton, a retired American gymnast and member of the University of Oklahoma Gymnastics and the United States National Team, was born on August 19, 1991.

Dalton grew up in Sparks, Nevada, the son of Tim and Denise Dalton, who had also represented the US at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Early life

While studying at Gym Nevada under coach Andrew Pileggi, Dalton attended Spanish Springs High School in Washoe County, Nevada. He earned a scholarship to compete for the University of Oklahoma in 2009, where he earned All-America recognition and captured the NCAA men's gymnastics floor and vault titles in 2011.

Dalton was the national vault champion in 2009 and 2011, the floor champion in 2011, and the Winter Cup Challenge All-Around gold medalist in 2011.

Dalton was a member of the United States team that captured the bronze medal in the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Dalton won gold on floor, rings, and all-around at the 2013 Winter Cup in February 2013. He earned the bronze medal at the P&G National Championships in August 2013 en route to the World Championships team. Kenzo Shirai of Japan, a 17-year-old newcomer, went on to win a silver medal in floor exercise at the 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Dalton was still recovering from a small shoulder labrum tear in 2015 but did not qualify for the P&G National Championships.

After Dalton was included in the Men's Gymnastics Code of Points in 2016, a new section on the parallel bars was introduced in 2016.

Dalton will be a member of the 2012 Olympic team representing the United States, according to the team's July 1, 2012. The team's roster, according to the New York Times, was "considered so good that it may be the first United States men's team to win gold since the 1984 Los Angeles Games." Dalton, who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, came fifth in the team competition.

Dalton was called to the five-man United States men's gymnastics squad for the Olympics on June 25, 2016. Sam Mikulak, John Orozco (who was later called to injury), Alex Naddour, and Chris Brooks represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Dalton was officially announced on August 9, 2017 that he was retiring from competitive gymnastics.
