Yigit Onkan Sazak, a vice president at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, says he and wife Belma's Jack Russell, Sirius, badly broke a hind leg on a £2,500 course of canine therapy in Suffolk. Mr Sazak claimed his family spent around £7,200 in vets' bills to treat the 'serious' fracture, with his wife claiming their traumatised dog even needed 'depression medication' to cope with not being able to run around while he healed. The banker went on to sue Four Paws to recoup this sum and the training fee, with a judge awarding him a total of £10,583 - including interest - after no-one representing the company attended to defend the claim. Four Paws Walking and Training Ltd is the brainchild of former advertising guru Paul Ives, who says online that he founded it after being inspired by his love of canines 'to help dogs and owners form an unbreakable bond'.

TOM UTLEY: I sometimes think my dog Minnie is utterly stupid - but she's smart enough to try to stop me forcing her to sit in the pub for hours
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 16, 2024
When my wife was growing up in Scotland, her father's Alsatian, Major, used to escort her and her four older sisters to their primary school every morning, unaccompanied by an adult. At a word of command in the afternoon, he would trot off on his own to the school and wait at the gates to escort the five of them home. I often think of Major, that model of intelligence, loyalty and obedience, when I try to persuade our own dog, Minnie, to obey the simplest instruction, such as 'sit', 'heel' or 'stop begging those poor picnickers for a morsel of sausage roll'. I then marvel anew at the thought that she belongs to the same species (though not the same breed) as the late Major.

And so it was as the King came to the Macmillan Cancer Centre at London 's University College Hospital to mark his cautious return to regular public duties for the first time since his own diagnosis in February.

However, IT specialist Gary Freemantle managed to recover the manuscript, and the book was published in October. Wilson's saviour was lauded in the front of the book for his achievements, with Wilson saying: 'To Gary Freemantle, the world's best technical wizard, with many thanks.'
