The fright flick survived the box office showdown with hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top spot. The Smile sequel starring Naomi Scott , 31,  as a pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for a world tour, opened wide in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.

Shirley MacLaine is laying her life bare in a new book full of photos and memories from her seven decade career. Sandy Bresler, the esteemed talent agent who represented Jack Nicholson for over 60 years, has passed away at the age of 87.  The industry veteran passed away in Santa Monica on Thursday after a brief illness, according to a statement from Bresler's family.  Bresler and the future Oscar winner, now 87,  first met while both were serving in the California Air National Guard, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
