Rangers could be punished with partial closure of Ibrox after fans launched fireworks in Europa League defeat
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 4, 2024
Rangers are sweating on a partial stadium closure after fans let off fireworks inside Ibrox during their 4-1 defeat to Lyon on Thursday.
In the first European game back at their stadium this season, pyrotechnics were launched over the head of home keeper Jack Butland from the lower tier of the Copland Road stand in the first half.
The flashpoint caused a temporary delay in the Europa League clash as German referee Sven Jablonski assessed the situation.

PLAYER RATINGS: Rangers were outclassed by Lyon in their first European game since returning to Ibrox, falling to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of their French opponents. It was a chastening night for Philippe Clement's side, with a number of defenders enduring a torrid night while the hosts somehow managed to miss an opening goal. Here, Paul Forsyth assesses how each of Rangers' players fared in the second game of their Europa League campaign
Jack Butland hails Rangers captain James Tavernier for continuing to stand strong in the face of adversity
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 27, 2024
Shortly after the full-time whistle had blown in the Eleda Stadion on Thursday night, James Tavernier led the Rangers players over to the corner of the arena which housed their supporters.
One by one, Tavernier and his team-mates applauded the fans and, in turn, took the acclaim from those who had made the journey over to Sweden.
A 2-0 victory away at Malmo in the Europa League was a result which few expected, a shot in the arm which breathes new life into Rangers' season.
BUTLAND: Rangers have a fortnight to stew over agonising Old Firm defeat ... and we've GOT to come back stronger
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 2, 2024
Jack Butland believes Rangers must be prepared to endure a fortnight of pain if they are to make amends for Sunday's defeat at Parkhead. Despite a bright start to the game, Philippe Clement's side ultimately lost 3-0 to slip to fourth place in the Premiership heading into the international break. Rangers don't have a game until they travel to face high-flying Dundee United at Tannadice, with Jim Goodwin's men now a point ahead of them in the table.
HAPPY JACK! Goalkeeper Butland wants to remain at Rangers after Ibrox chiefs reassured him over club's future plans
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 12, 2024
Jack Butland insists he sees his future at Rangers after receiving assurances over the club's ambitions. And the 31-year-old goalkeeper hopes the Ibrox side reject any incoming transfer bids for his services after admitting he wants to be a success there. Butland has become a senior figure at the club since joining on a free transfer from Crystal Palace last summer.
STEPHEN McGOWAN: Young players are becoming an endangered species in the Scottish Premiership
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 9, 2024
The World Wildlife Fund blame climate change for placing one in nine Scottish species in danger of extinction. It's not just hedgehogs and squirrels heading the way of the dodo and Third Lanark. The most endangered creatures of all are Scottish footballers in the SPFL Premiership.
Revealed: England's Euro 2024 stars Anthony Gordon and Marc Guehi would be in Team GB's Olympics football squad, according to AI - but can you guess which Liverpool and Chelsea stars would make the cut?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 25, 2024
Artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT has predicted what Team GB 's men's football team would look like at the 2024 Olympics if they were competing this summer. The topic of sending a British football team to the Olympics has long been a contentious issue, with the men's presence in London 2012 the only games they have competed at since 1960. 12 years ago, the likes of Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy, Micah Richards, Jack Butland, Daniel Sturridge and Aaron Ramsey were among the names in action, with Stuart Pearce's side crashing out in the quarter-finals on penalties to South Korea.
Clement's Rangers squad needs renovating just as badly as Copland Road stand ... with striker a priority

Before a ball has even been kicked in the new season, Rangers find themselves scrambling around trying to fix a mess of their own making. The ongoing uncertainty around Ibrox, and what sort of state the stadium will be in for the start of the new campaign, has put the club firmly behind the eight ball. Delays to construction work mean the stadium will be unable to host games for the first month of the season at the very least, impacting the first few league games as well as Champions League qualifiers.
Son of a Gunn: Dad Bryan and family have gathered en masse to support Angus in Munich… a city where the former Scotland goalkeeper enjoyed success twice
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 10, 2024
Munich is a city close to Bryan Gunn's heart. A member of the Aberdeen squad who secured a goalless draw there on the way to lifting the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983, he returned a decade later with Norwich City and became the first - and only - Scottish goalkeeper to win in the Bavarian capital. He returns at the age of 60 with his wife and family to watch son Angus keep goal for Scotland in the opening game of Euro 2024 this week. By the end of a nervy 90 minutes against hosts Germany, he hopes to welcome a new entrant to an elite and exclusive club. 'I'm still the only British goalkeeper who has won against Bayern in Munich,' he tells Mail Sport. 'Norwich were 2-1 up heading into the final minutes of the game when I made my best-ever save.'
GARY KEOWN: It's make or break for Bennett at Ibrox... if Rangers don't grasp their European lifeline, Celtic will simply disappear over the horizon
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 2, 2024
THE last time John Bennett said anything significant outside of the stage-managed snoozefest of the Rangers AGM, it was part of a ludicrous move to try to play down the significance of monies being brought in from the Champions League.
September 2022 that was. On the in-house TV channel. He was still the vice-chairman. The manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, had got the club into the group stage of Europe's premier competition by beating PSV Eindhoven in a play-off and, despite seeking to strengthen the squad, received nothing for any new players in the six days between securing progress in the Netherlands and the transfer window shutting.
When it all went pear-shaped that season, managing director and all-round grey man Stewart Robertson started droning on about how people had been talking about money having 'fallen out of the sky' and how this Champions League dough the club had been chasing for years was, as it turns out, nothing to get in a flap over.
SLIDING DOORS MOMENT: Was Carter-Vickers' return from injury at Fir Park the spark that set Celtic on road to sealing a league and cup double?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 26, 2024
Hoping to cash in on the latest moment of triumph, Celtic's media team will doubtless have spent the weekend frantically piecing together the highlights of the season just gone. These days, the DVDs tend to be on the shop shelves before the last of the confetti has been swept up at Hampden. With the Premiership and Scottish Cup secured after a challenging campaign, there will be no shortage of pivotal moments to choose from.
Rangers should plan for a future without Jack Butland... it makes little sense for him to hang around at Ibrox
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 19, 2024
IF there's any justice in the world, Jack Butland will be named in Gareth Southgate's England squad on Tuesday and secure himself a place on the plane to Germany for the Euros.
The Rangers goalkeeper ought to have been involved in the Three Lions' double-header with Brazil and Belgium in March. It was a hammer blow when he was left out in favour of Crystal Palace's Sam Johnstone and the lesser-spotted Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal - and a full-on thumb in the eye when Burnley's James Trafford, just dropped by club boss Vincent Kompany, was drafted in ahead of him after Johnstone had gone down with an elbow injury.
Rangers boss Clement insists there is NO GAP between his side and Celtic... as rivals stand on brink of Scottish title
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 13, 2024
PHILIPPE CLEMENT insists there's no gap in quality between Rangers and Celtic despite his side looking destined to miss out on the Premiership title.
A third reverse in the league this season to Brendan Rodgers' side saw the Belgian's team fall six points and seven goals behind the Parkhead men with just two games left to play.
Celtic will be confirmed as champions tonight if Rangers fail to beat Dundee at Ibrox or if Rodgers' men take a point from Kilmarnock tomorrow.
Celtic 2-1 Rangers: John Lundstram's own goal and red card in nine-minute spell sees the Bhoys close-in on another Scottish Premiership trophy after Old Firm derby title decider
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 11, 2024
JOHN MCGARRY AT PARKHEAD: At the point when the senses were no longer being subjected to the sustained assault that comes with being exposed to this unique sporting battle, the final picture in this compelling Premiership season was just about complete. After a campaign of no little tumult and turmoil, Celtic can now reach out and touch the league trophy. Barring the biggest collapse in the history of the Scottish game, Brendan Rodgers' side will claim the club's 54th championship - their 12th in 13 years - in the coming days.
STEPHEN McGOWAN: Wrath of Rangers fans will be inescapable if Butland and Co surrender the title
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 10, 2024
TO SILENCE that mouthy supporter last week, Jack Butland should have dug out the old Dean Saunders line from the nineties.
Edging towards the fag end of his career, the Welsh international was going through a barren spell at Sheffield United when a frustrated Blades fan gave it the old 'I pay your wages' routine. Saunders shut him up instantly by asking if his match ticket now cost ten grand a week.
Butland has proven his worth to Rangers with a series of match-winning performances. He's under no obligation to line the pockets of entitled bozos chasing a signed shirt to flog to the highest bidder on eBay.
Thanks to Daizen Maeda's 'freak' goal at Ibrox, Celtic takes the lead after just 21 seconds in the Old Firm Derby against Rangers
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 7, 2024
Celtic stunned the audience at Ibrox when they took the lead after only 21 seconds thanks to Daizen Maeda's spectacular goal. The Japanese national charged down a failed clearance from James Tavernier and saw the ball cannon fly past a helpless Jack Butland in goal. In the final meeting of the Old Firm rivals, the home fans were left stunned, only by a point before kick-off.
Rangers 2-2: After Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling gave visitors the lead in Portugal, the tourists came from behind twice to keep the last-16 clash alive
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 7, 2024
STEPHEN McGOWAN: Benfica came from behind twice to earn a draw in their Europa League match against Rangers on Thursday night. Through Tom Lawrence, the hosts had taken the lead before Angel Di Maria levelled from the penalty spot right before the break. Rangers regained control through Dujon Sterling and appeared to have wrapped up the victory if it wasn't for a Connor Goldson own-goal in the 67th minute.
Gareth Southgate could turn to Jack Butland amid England goalkeeper dilemma with in-form Rangers stopper potentially in line for a first call-up in SIX YEARS
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 10, 2024
Gareth Southgate could switch to Jack Butland once more, with the England boss announcing that he is facing a goalkeeper problem. Although Everton's Jordan Pickford remains England's No. 1, Southgate's Southgate is uncertain on back-up options with Euro 2024 fast approaching. Aaron Ramsdale has been warming the Arsenal bench for the bulk of the season after Mikel Arteta brought in David Raya last year, with the 25-year-old playing just 10 games all season.
With Philippe Clement's encouragement, Oscar Cortes shares his tale with Rangers, the Colombian international's third January arrival
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 2, 2024
Oscar Cortes, Rangers' new boy, claims that a series of heart to heart conversations with Philippe Clement persuaded him to move to Scotland. Following Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande's signing of a loan from French club Lens until the end of the season, the 20-year-old Colombian winger became the Ibrox club's third January capture. Rangers have the ability to make the deal permanent. Though Rangers' decision to sign Brazilian left-back Jefte ran into shambles, Rangers repelled late interest in Ridvan Yilmaz and keeper Jack Butland before the window was closed.
Rangers 2-1 Aris Limassol: In Steven Davis' first game in interim charge, more misery has been poured on Scottish giants who are defeated in Europa League group stage by the Cypriot champions
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 5, 2023
BRIAN MAJORIBANKS IN LIMASSOL: The face directing play for Rangers may have changed, but the Ibrox club's woes remained firmly in place. Michael Beale may have been deprived of home discomforts for a brief period of time as a result of a 1-0 victory over Real Betis on match day one. However, Steven Davis made his bow as interim boss in Cyprus as he appeared to be in a humiliating loss to a typical Aris Limassol team.
Rangers 1-2 Newcastle: In Magpies' win over Sandro Tonali's debut, Ibrox announces the goodbye to legend Allan McGregor
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 18, 2023
The game halted after 38 minutes of pre-season action as the PA told Ibrox that it was time to say goodbye to an icon. In the center circle, Allan McGregor was welcomed by his colleagues. He applauded the supporters. He received handshakes from Michael Beale and Eddie Howe as he approached the touch line. Despite all, he wrapped his arm around Jack Butland and whispered a few words of encouragement into his new's ear. This was the case if you wanted a changing-of-the-guard picture.
Jack Butland talked to Rangers about the Man United bench's switch for his first team action
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 17, 2023
MARK WILSON: Jack Butland became England's youngest goalkeeper when he was 19 years and 158 days old. He was off to the Premier League in a £3.5 million transfer just months later. His meteoric rise sparked rumors of future glory. But a football career, as well as life, rarely travels on a single, smooth trajectory. Butland gained his first cap when he was 25 years old. As the club began to flounder after relegation to the Championship, he thrived with Stoke City, but he suffered from injury, loss of form, and mistrust from managers.

Since finishing second in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year polling last season, Petrovic is being considered a candidate by the club.
Dean Henderson, the goalkeeper for United United, has 'P***D OFF Erik ten Hag', according to a man
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 21, 2023
Henderson spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest and was instrumental in the club's Premier League's revival before being barred due to a thigh injury that necessitated surgery. He is now expected to return to his parent's house. However, it is unlikely that the stopper compelled himself back into Ten Hag's plans, with the Manchester Evening News stating that the manager is dissatisfied with him. Despite De Gea's increasing tendency to resign as a free agent when his lucrative deal comes to an end at the end of the month. Henderson has had an uneasy two years on the books, and he's expressed disappointment at his inability to usurp De Gea despite previous promises.
