A Tennessee judge has ruled that Ja Morant acted in self defense when the Grizzlies star punched a teenager at his Memphis mansion in July of 2022, according to multiple reports. Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney's decision comes nearly four months after Morant's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the civil lawsuit under Tennessee's so-called ground law. Morant testified in December that he 'swung first' at then-17-year-old Joshua Holloway, but only to 'protect myself' during the altercation. Holloway allegedly became frustrated during a pickup basketball game at Morant's home and subsequently threw the ball of the NBA All-Star's face, according to previous filings. Morant allegedly responded by stepping forward to punch Holloway, who was also hit by Morant's friend, Davonte Pack. Pack was later arrested for misdemeanor assault, although that charge has since been dropped.

Ja Morant has gone from a 22-year-old star on the rise to a 24-year-old star in the NBA's barrel. A string of events have dogged the point guard's debut to his NBA career, the most notable of which - a second gun-flashing Instagram video - brought his career to a halt with a 25-game suspension. However, with the Grizzlies' 116-97 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, Game No. will be played. Morant, 25, is expected to return to the court tonight for his long-awaited return. Memphis and the NBA will be hoping Morant has figured out whether or not his future will be jeopardized by his'irresponsible, irresponsible, and potentially risky' behavior. Morant's return to school gives him his second - or even third chance, one that after counseling, meetings with commissioner Adam Silver, and what seems to be genuine repentance, he still has his second - or third - chance, but it is likely to be his last.

EDITION OF NBA NOTEBOOK: Ja Morant's suspension didn't cost the Grizzlies his season, it may have cost them the Grizzlies their season, and the league MUST avoid the Chris Paul-Scott Foster beef

NBA NOTEBOOK: When Ja Morant was suspended 25 games last June after flashing a gun on video for the second time, it wasn't quite viewed as a season-breaker for the Grizzlies. Many people disagreed that NBA commissioner Adam Silver had been too light on Morant, and Memphis went a respectable 11-10 without him last season. Despite being completely absent since October 25, the Grizzlies have started the year with an embarrassing 3-13 record.
