Early years
Chase attended Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, which is located in suburban New Orleans. He had 115 receptions for 2,152 yards and 30 touchdowns during his career. Chase was ranked as the nation's 84th overall recruiter and the number 15 receiver prospect coming out of high school. Chase attended Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college football after initially committed to the University of Kansas.
College career
Chase played in all 14 games and made eight starts as a true freshman at LSU in 2018. He had 23 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
Chase made his return to action in 2019 with 1,780 yards on 84 passes (21.2 avg) and 20 receiving touchdowns. His 20 touchdowns set a Southeastern Conference (SEC) record before it was broken by DeVonta Smith the following year. He eclipsed the 100-yard line six times, and an additional three times he eclipsed 200 receiving yards in a game mark, with a College Football Playoff championship game record of 221 yards against Clemson. LSU finished the year undefeated and captured the College Football Playoff National Championship. Chase revealed that he was canceling out to concentrate on his NFL career a month before the 2020 season. Professional career

Chase's 266 yards not only set a Bengals franchise record for receiving yards, but it also set a new NFL record for most receiving yards in a rookie game. Chase had two passes for 26 yards before leaving the game, beating Chad Johnson's record for most receiving yards in a single season. Chase's rookie regular season featured 81 receptions for 1,455 yards (4th in the NFL) and 13 touchdowns (3rd).
