Isaac Hernández (born 30 April 1990) is a Mexican ballet dancer and principal with the English National Ballet.

Early life

Isaac Hernández was born in Guadala, Mexico, as one of Hector Hernández, a former dancer,'s 11 children. Esteban Hernandez, one of his brothers, is a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet. He was taught dance by his parents at the age 8 in the family's backyard. He then studied at The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia.

Hernández is married to Tamara Rojo, the English National Ballet's artistic director.

Dancing career

Hernandez was the first dancer at the ABT II. He appeared in 2008 and was promoted to soloist in San Francisco Ballet's corps de ballet. He joined the Dutch National Ballet as a soloist in 2012 and was promoted to principal dancer the following year after portraying Prince Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty. He joined the company as a lead principal in 2015 after making a guest appearance with the English National Ballet in Swan Lake. As well as contemporary works such as Aszure Barton's Fantastic Beings and Akram Khan's Giselle, his repertoire includes classical works such as Romeo and Juliet and La Sylphide.

He has appeared in Solor in La Bayadère and in Nureyev's Don Quixote, as a guest artist, and in Baryshnikov and Laurent Hilare's version of Don Quixote.

In 2015, he was dubbed "the hottest ballet boy to reach London since Carlos Acosta."

Hernandez received the Prix Benois de la Danse in 2018 for his work in Don Quixote with the Rome Opera Ballet and La Sylphide with the ENB. He is the first Mexican dancer to win the prize.

He is Mexico's youngest artist to be lauded by the Mexican president as an arts and tourism ambassador. Hernandez and his brother Esteban initiated a project in Guadalajara to attract other dancers to perform and teach at workshops.

Acting career

Hernandez made his acting debut in Carlos Saura's film The King of All the World. He appeared in Manolo Caro's limited series Someone Has To Die in the role of Lázaro, a ballet dancer. On October 16, 2020, the show premiered.
