Personal life
Luigi d'Urso (1951–2006), an Italian railroad executive, married nobleman Luigi d'Urso (1991–2006), in Tarascon, France, on June 9, 1990. Luigi was the son of Don Alessandro d'Urso and his partner, Donna Clothilde Serra, the niece of Don Luigi Serra, 9th Duke di Cassano and Elizabeth Grant; and descendant George Clymer, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed both the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the United States Constitution in 1787. Both Luigi and Inès had two children, Nine Marie d'Urso (born 27 February 1994) and Violette Marie d'Urso (born 6 August 1999). Clotilde d'Urso and India d'Urso, the daughters of Luigi d'Urso by his first wife, Guendalina Levier, have two stepdaughters.
Career
She began her modeling career in 1974 at the age of 17. She was 6'11" (5'11") and with a weight of 50 kg (110 lb). She quickly became known as "the talking mannequin" by many, due to her ability to engage with fashion journalists and state her views on her profession and fashion.
La Fressange debuted in 1975, aged 18 in 1976, when she was shown in Oliviero Toscani's first photograph, then modelled for Thierry Mugler and other designers.
By fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld's muse she became owing to her resemblance to Chanel's founder, Coco Chanel, who died in 1971.
However, Lagerfeld and La Fressange had a fight and parted company in 1989. This was, at least in part, based on her decision to lend her likeness to a bust of Marianne, the French Republic's most popular symbol. Lagerfeld sluggishly remarked on her decision, saying that Marianne was the embodiment of "everything that is dull, bourgeois, and provincial" and that he would not dress up historic monuments.
In 1991, she founded 'Inès de la Fressange', a luxury brand, located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, with the financial support of Orcofi. It was an instant success, not only in France, but also in the United States and Japan.
She was made redundant from her own business, not a majority shareholder, in December 1999, but her majority co-shareholders maintain it was because she had created a pill-dispenser for the 'Elixir of Abbé Soury,' which was due to equity dilution.' She lost the opportunity to use her name and personal brand, which she fought for five years in court.
At age 51, she walked the runway for Gaultier at an event. In 2011, she appeared at the Chanel spring-summer 2011 show.
Sophie Gachet, a fashion journalist, and La Fressange are the authors of Parisian Chic, a Style Guide.
