On the 1996 Euros, the English comedian, 59, admitted to the song Three Lions by himself, Frank, and the band The Lightning Seeds earned them money. However, David said that the album has not been a moneymaker for the comedy pair since the inception of Spotify. 'Not money, for a start,' David told The Sun when asked what the song had brought him in addition to fame.' A fair wedge was sent between Frank and Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds.' But not since Spotify took over, has it brought us much money.'

The comedians claim they 'couldn't refuse' to reunite with The Lightning Seeds singer Ian Broudie to create a new version of the much-loved song that was first released in 1996 when England lost on penalties to Germany. This time it includes 'Three Lions on a sleigh' and 'football's coming home for Christmas,' as well as a festive music video starring a World Cup made with a Christmas pudding and custard. Several nods to the Lionesses who won Euro 2022 this summer have been lost, including England's 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst, who also dresses as Noddy Holder from Slade. However, football fans are questioning the decision to broadcast it once more, with others claiming that it is so toe-curling and saccharin-sweet that it makes them want to vomit. Many believed it was simply Skinner and Baddiel profiting by 'flogging The Lions song to death.' One wag tweeted: 'A new version of Three Lions?Could this world cup get any worse?' With one dissatisfie fellow England supporter adding, "There are three Lions in the bin more like it."

The comedians have reunited with singer Ian Broudie to create a new version of the song with Christmas-themed lyrics. The chorus of 'Three Lions on the shirt' becomes 'Three Lions on a sleigh,' with Sir Geoff Hurst and Liones as the accompanying music video. The song also changes the original lyrics from 1996's "36 years of pain" to "56," according to the comedians, who also referred to the men's team's '20 weeks of pain" in connection with the Lionesses' triumphant Euro 2022 campaign over the summer. The original 1996 version of the UEFA was played after England's victories at Wembley Stadium at Euro 2020 before the men's victory over Italy in the final last year.

Frank Skinner (left) is back for November's World Cup with a new interpretation of his England anthem Three Lions anthem, with the Lionesses' dramatic Euro 2020 triumph (right) front and centre. With England gearing up for yet another attempt to bring all those years of pain to an end, Skinner has ripped off the old classic with long-time collaborator Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds. Skinner, 65, said he recorded the latest track at Broudie's home studio, and it begins with a salute to the England women's team after their triumph in the European Championship in July. Skinner said on his Absolute Radio show, "I won't tell where it goes, but it starts like this... loving that Lionesses win." The Three Lions' anthem - and its legendary 'football's coming home' chorus - has dominated most of the international football tournaments between then and now, with England's 'nearly' appearance at home at Euro 96.
