News about Iain Dale

I was told it was an 18 week wait for my 'urgent' operation, reveals radio star IAIN DALE. That's why I had to make a decision I know some may judge...

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 25, 2024
When radio presenter Iain Dale was rushed into the emergency department at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in July, he was told he'd need to undergo an invasive surgery as soon as possible. The 62-year-old, who helms the Evening Show on LBC Radio, had been suffering severe pain down the right-hand side of his abdomen for several days and had repeatedly been sick. Within minutes of being seen, a doctor diagnosed a perforated gallbladder, and told him that the pear-shaped organ would need to come out the moment an operating room became available. The condition usually occurs when the opening to the gallbladder becomes blocked, leading to inflammation and swelling. Left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening infections. He was told that due to the record length of the NHS waiting list for surgical procedures, he would not be able to get his gallbladder out once the necessary six weeks had passed. Instead, Iain would have to wait 18 weeks before his severely damaged gallbladder could be removed - meaning the procedure would not happen until December.

Suella Braverman slams 'liberal' Tories who opposed taking LGBTQ+ Progress Pride flag down from Government buildings as leadership infighting gathers pace

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 9, 2024
Suella Braverman has been widely condemned after she branded the LGBTQ+ Progress Pride flag as 'horrible' and 'monstrous'. The former home secretary hit out at 'far, far too many Tory politicians' who wanted the flag flown in Whitehall to show 'how liberal and progressive we are'. Mrs Braverman, who is expected to run for the Conservative leadership, moaned she was too enfeebled as a minister to get the flag removed from her own department. She blamed 'other Tory politicians' for her failure, while also delivering a wider attack on 'liberal Conservatives' who 'trashed' the party. Mrs Braverman's blistering speech in Washington DC stirred up a backlash within Conservative ranks, with some Tories vowing to thwart her leadership ambitions. They labelled her address to the National Conservatism conference as 'disgusting' and 'intentionally inflammatory' and pledged to stop her becoming party leader.

Iain Dale slams people who 'revelled in my disappointment and self-humiliation' after pulling out of race to be Tory MP for Tunbridge Wells after he admitted he 'never liked' the town on a podcast

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 2, 2024
Mr Dale dropped his bid to become the town's Conservative candidate in the upcoming general election less than three days after announcing he was quitting the LBC radio station to run. Following his pitch to voters on his show on Tuesday, the Lib Dems reported previous comments made by Mr Dale on a podcast in which he admitted he had 'never liked' the Kent town to the local Conservative association. During the 2022 episode of his podcast For The Many, Mr Dale said: 'I have lived in Tunbridge Wells since 1997, slightly against my will. I've never liked the place. Still don't, and would happily live somewhere else.' After being forced to withdraw, Mr Dale tweeted today: 'Huge thanks to the hundreds of you who have been in touch over the last few days. As you can imagine, it's been a brutal 48 hours or so and there were some very dark moments. But I'm through it now and your words of encouragement helped greatly.

Moment Iain Dale admits he 'never liked' Tunbridge Wells in podcast two years before announcing bid to run as Tory MP for the town - as broadcaster pulls out just days after quitting LBC

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 31, 2024
Journalist and broadcaster Iain Dale has withdrawn his bid to become the Conservative candidate for Tunbridge Wells in the upcoming general election. It comes after it emerged this week he once admitted he had 'never liked' the Kent town. Speaking to LBC's Nick Ferrari this morning, the presenter for the radio channel said he would be taking time 'to reflect' on matters after his comments on an episode of his For The Many podcast in 2022 came to light. Mr Dale claimed he 'instantly recognised' the problem posed by his statement, adding that he could not be sure he hadn't said 'something else' that would be damaging.

LBC's Iain Dale announces he is to leave radio station after 15 years to try to stand as the Tory MP for Tunbridge Wells - nine years after losing as a Conservative candidate for North Norfolk

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 29, 2024
Iain Dale joined the radio station in 2010 and has presented four LBC General Election Night Shows, two American Presidential Election shows, the station's Scottish and Brexit referendum night shows and the station's evening show. Broadcast rules mean candidates in the General Election are not allowed to present radio shows. Talking on LBC on Tuesday night, Mr Dale told listeners: 'You know how much politics means to me. And if you've listened for any length of time, you know I've always had two ambitions in life. One was to be a radio presenter and the other was to be an MP. Last time I tried, the electorate fought back, in quite a major way it has to be said. But now I am putting my hat in the ring again to be a candidate at the General Election.'

It's not just women's bones that break, but men's bones can also decay...Iain Dale, a LBC presenter, had no idea he'd been osteoporosis before breaking his hip in an agonizing fall

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 26, 2024
Most men probably never knew they were susceptible to osteoporosis. Why would they, when the bone-thinning condition is so strongly associated with frail, elderly women? However, this is a rather inaccurate representation. In fact, 800,000 are men out of the country's 3.5 million people with the disease. And that, experts warn, is almost certainly inaccurate, considering that the true picture is much smaller. Many more people are going undiagned or are unknowingly at risk of the condition, which can lead to life-limiting fractures and premature death. According to Craig Jones, chief executive of the Royal Osteoporosis Society, men are missing out on therapies and protecting themselves.

On Friday, Good Morning Britain got off to a rocky start as Charlotte Hawkins was forced to deal with an on-air blunder. As Iain began recording, the recording was cut off before returning later.

'I sell XL Bullys to drug dealers at a time when the pressure to ban'mutant' crossbreeds is high

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 12, 2023
On LBC this morning, an extraordinary comment was made by a caller, as a tumultuous discussion of whether the dangerous'mutant' crossbreed should be barred in the United Kingdom continues to rage. It comes after a string of deadly maulings and violent attacks, which have led to Home Secretary Suella Braverman's request for 'urgent' advice on outlawing the 'lethal' breed of hounds. Speaking on LBC, presenter Iain Dale (left) asked the Hull-based breeder called 'David': 'When you decided to breed this type of dog, who were you aiming them at?Who did you want to sell them to and who did you sell them to?' The man replied, 'Drug dealers.' 'I'll be completely honest with you, Iain.'

Joanna Cherry rails against cancel culture at Edinburgh Festival as the SNP MP is flanked by security guards with guests forced to go through metal detectors - but only two trans activists turn up after comedy club tried

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2023
As she appeared at her Edinburgh Festival event surrounded by security guards, SNP MP Joanna Cherry protested against cancel culture. Attendances were coerced into airport-style security. During a 'In Conversation with...' appearance, she was flanked by hand scanners and metal detectors, whilst guards flanked her. After announcing that The Stand comedy club had tried 'cancelling her,' the SNP MP was blown by the lack of protesters at the tense debate. The Fringe festival only went on after Ms Cherry threatened to sue the club, whose workers were reportedly refusing to attend the event due to her gender-critical views.

The ex-TV news chief of BBC screams at the corporation's 'TERRIBLE' footage

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 6, 2022
Roger Mosey, the BBC's former television news chief, said that the corporation is struggling to create original content and instead thrusting bland reality television shows onto viewers. I would make smaller cuts to news and larger cuts to all the antiques, quiz [and] cookery programs,' he said. 'There isn't a market argument now for the BBC to produce as many daytime type programmes as it does.'

Sarah Ferguson joins Prince Andrew to look at floral tributes left outside Windsor Castle

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 16, 2022
Fergie, the mother-of-two, missed out on the Balmoral walkabout with her children earlier this week but also didn't attend the funeral procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday. However, the Duchess is reported to have been invited to the funeral on Monday. Ms Ferguson was married to the Queen's "favourite son" for ten years before they separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996. She continued to live with the Duke in Windsor's home and has often expressed her distaste for her former mother-in-law, the monarch, whom she referred to as her 'greatest mentor.' On Thursday, she was last seen glued to her phone at Venice airport, just days before the royal's death was announced.

Keir Starmer resurfaces after his holiday to brand Boris Johnson a 'complete lame duck'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 12, 2022
On Monday, Labour leader Ed Miliband announced that he would lay out his party's strategy for combating the energy crisis. When pressed to come up with a nickname for the Prime Minister, Johnson branded Mr Johnson a 'bulls****er' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He said it is "nonsense" to say that his party has not been leading on the cost-of-living crisis, according to Iain Dale and Jacqui Smith. Mr Dale said Labour's position had been criticized, but that "all politicians must take holidays." He also talked about his own'modest' upbringing and how it affected his perception of the pressures people are facing today.

Boris Johnson said being foreign secretary was 'like being in a steel condom'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 9, 2022
At the Edinburgh Fringe, she made the bizarre remark when she spoke about her political career. Mr Johnson served as the foreign minister in Theresa May's reign from 2016 to 2018, when he resigned in order to run for party leader. Baroness Davidson said to LBC's Iain Dale at a recent Edinburgh Fringe event that he once compared being foreign secretary to me as being trapped in a steel condom.' I found it odd because I hadn't asked him. He seemed to be paying attention to the fact that he received from civil servants to make sure he didn't say anything. He said he was imprisoned in a steel condom.'
