EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles' new Lord Chamberlain Richard Benyon has a lucrative sideline
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 22, 2024
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: The King's new Lord Chamberlain, former Conservative MP Richard Benyon (left), has a lucrative sideline renting his country pile Englefield House (right) for movies such as The King's Speech and Star Wars TV series The Acolyte. It also featured in Midsomer Murders, a favourite of the late Queen. Surely Lord Benyon won't persuade Charles to raise revenue by letting Buckingham Palace feature in a show with more homicides per head than any part of the UK.

www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 12, 2024

Footage has emerged of Clive Myrie , who is a regular newsreader for the national broadcaster, slamming the 'f****** idiot' who heckled him during a Q&A event on September 25, over claims Myrie helped spread ' Israeli propaganda'. Moments after the stunt, which took place at the University of the Arts London where Myrie has recently been appointed Chancellor, he condemned the 'lunatic who just walked out and didn't have the courtesy to hear my response'. He added: 'I have a f****** idiot shout at me in public and then leave. He doesn't want to hear the other side.'

www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 11, 2024

Meanwhile, BBC chairman Samir Shah insisted that nobody 'should ever feel fear or worry' while working for the broadcaster.
JAN MOIR: There are losers, bad losers - and Rebekah Vardy. Now she knows her kind of stupid has its price...

There are losers, there are bad losers and then there is Rebekah Vardy, who is in a loser class of her own. If Rebekah were competing at the Flop Olympics , Eddie the Eagle would be pinning the Golden Dud medal on her impressive embonpoint as we speak.
Huw Edwards' wife 'files for divorce' in the wake of disgraced newsreader's child porn offences as former BBC star puts £4.75m home on the market
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 9, 2024
Fallen BBC star Huw Edwards' wife has reportedly filed for divorce following his conviction for hoarding vile child-abuse images last month. The 63-year-old's wife Vicky Flind steadfastly stood by his side during the scandal and was the one to put an end to speculation around the identity of the BBC employee at the centre of the investigation. Mrs Flind - who is the mother of Edwards' three sons and two daughters - kicked him out of their six-bedroom family home.
Huw Edwards puts his six-bedroom home in leafy Dulwich up for sale for £4.75m after disgraced newsreader was convicted of child porn offences
www.dailymail.co.uk,

EXCLUSIVE: The six-bedroom property in Dulwich, south east London, has been put on the market in the last few days. The twisted newsreader, 63, and his wife Vicky Flind bought the sprawling property for £1.85m in 2006. It is understood the mortgage has been paid off, meaning a sale will give him a bumper pay-day now he is without his £475,000 BBC salary. The home is being sold by Pedder and is for sale on Right Move. It is described as a 'substantial detached mid century family house'.

And these include many who have been violent or sexually abusive towards women or children. Here MailOnline looks at a snapshot of just some of the court cases around the UK in the last three weeks where sexual or violent offenders have walked free.
BBC Mastermind presenter Clive Myrie apologises after failing to declare £65,000 outside earnings from corporate events on top of £310,000 salary
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 5, 2024
BBC presenter Clive Myrie has apologised after failing to declare at least £65,000 of earnings from corporate events. The Mastermind host earned the money from corporate events over the last 12 months, including speeches at functions hosted by Dutch bank ING and the Royal College of Surgeons. On top of his £310,000-a-year salary for presenting the News At One, News At Six and News At Ten, Mr Myrie earns an undisclosed sum for his work on the quiz show. Mr Myrie, 60, received income for a total of eleven events over the past year, earning between £5,000 and £10,000 for nine of them, and over £10,000 for the remaining two, the Sunday Times reported.
Huw Edwards showed 'no remorse' and needs to take responsibility, says journalist Mariella Frostrup
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 29, 2024
Huw Edwards showed 'no remorse' for his behaviour and needs to take responsibility, journalist Mariella Frostrup has scathingly declared. The disgraced former News at Ten presenter, 63, pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by a convicted paedophile. Edwards' career now lies in tatters after the sex offender was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years. Presenter and campaigner Frostrup, 61, said that his 'horrible story' was exacerbated by his 'reaction'. She said that the fact the Welshman blamed 'everyone else' for his problems - his family for not noticing he was taking medicine, his toxic father and being rejected from Oxford University 46 years ago.
Huw Edwards' former BBC colleague Jon Sopel opens up on his crimes 58 days after guilty pleas and a year since media round backing him
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 26, 2024
Sopel's intervention comes 58 days after the disgraced former News at 10 presenter pled guilty to three charges of making indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by a convicted paedophile. Edwards' career now lies in tatters after the sex offenders was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended by two years. But before he was charged former BBC News North America editor Sopel, 65, was one of Edwards' biggest defenders (pictured tweeting inset) after he went out on the airwaves several times to back him, claiming he had a 'complicated private life'. He led the fury against tabloid journalism, blasting the Sun's story he allegedly paid a teenager £35,000 for 'sordid images' as 'nonsense' and describing the decision to publish as 'half-cooked'. But he has now turned on his convicted criminal ex-colleague, claiming the two 'weren't mates' and saying he is not going to 'defend anything that he's done'.
Ministers will review sentences for online paedophiles amid calls for guaranteed prison terms for offenders such as Huw Edwards
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 24, 2024
Ministers are set to review sentences for online paedophiles amid calls for guaranteed prison terms for offenders such as Huw Edwards. There was a public outcry after the former BBC newsreader escaped jail earlier this month after admitting possession of indecent images of children. The 63-year-old received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He admitted three charges of 'making' indecent photographs after being sent 41 illegal images by paedophile Alex Williams over WhatsApp. The case sparked anger with questions raised about the decision to let Edwards dodge jail and over wider sentencing guidelines. The National Crime Agency last year raised concerns that eight out of 10 people in the UK caught with indecent images of children avoid going to jail.
Sex offenders could be supervised by 'under-qualified' probation officers after service shake-up, whistleblowers fear
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 22, 2024
Sex offenders could be supervised by 'under-qualified' probation officers under a new shake-up, whistleblowers fear. Offenders such as disgraced former BBC presenter Huw Edwards - who have accessed or in other cases supplied child abuse images - could be rehabilitated under a treatment programme which is subject to change. If the court is not satisfied by Edwards's private treatment by a psychosexual therapist, he will be placed on one of the so-called iHorizon schemes as part of his suspended two-year sentence. And rather than being led by specialist fully qualified 'band four' probation officers, who are paid up to £10,000 or more, the courses will be run by less qualified staff under the changes, the whistleblowers say. It means that the more senior officers are either switching to other equivalent jobs elsewhere in the service, quitting the profession or doing work at the band three level.
Disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards is still allowed to text the vile paedophile who sent him dozens of child sex photos despite suspended prison sentence
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 22, 2024
The shamed star got a suspended prison sentence for his crimes but was not hit with any stringent restrictions like other offenders. The decision not to impose a Sexual Harm Prevention Order means he will be able to do what he wants with his mobile phone and internet use. It means he could still be in contact with fellow Welshman Alex Williams (right), 25, who is the convicted paedophile who sent him the slew of disgusting child sex images. The 63-year-old can also travel abroad provided he gives police seven days' notice. And there are no limitations on where he can go in the UK, meaning he can even visit areas where children frequent such as playgrounds. He previously admitted three charges of 'making' indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by Williams over WhatsApp.
Shamed Huw Edwards 'could make as much as £2MILLION from his mortgage-free house being sold'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 22, 2024
The shamed star was this week given six months suspended prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to having made seven Category A indecent images of children - the worst type - as well as 12 Category B, and 22 Category C images. Westminster Magistrates Court heard details of Edwards' sickening interactions with convicted paedophile Alex Williams who, between the years 2018 and 2021, sent the father-of-five indecent images of children. Of the images he received, the estimated age of most of the children was between 13 and 15, but one was aged between seven and nine. But now the convicted paedophile could be about to receive a windfall of millions if the home he bought with his wife Vicky Flind in the leafy London suburb of Dulwich is sold.
Fury as Mohamed Al Fayed's son says allegations that his father raped five of his young women is a BBC plot to distract from Huw - as he calls claims 'outrageous'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 21, 2024
One of Mohamed Al Fayed's sons has made a spirited defence of his father, dismissing the allegations that he raped five of his young women staff as 'completely outrageous'. Omar Al Fayed, 36, has told friends he believes the BBC screened its explosive documentary - Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods - to divert attention from the child porn disgrace of its TV news presenter Huw Edwards. Environmentalist and publisher Omar told a friend: 'I think the Beeb have had this up their back pocket.' He added: 'With all the fire they are coming under, I think it's timely that they deployed it just as Huw Edwards is let off the hook effectively for the most disgusting conduct.'
How Huw Edwards can live anywhere, go on holiday and even contact the paedophile who sent him vile images. No wonder abuse victims are asking: How DID he get away with it?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 21, 2024
Given that the chief magistrate chose not to hand down a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which imposes a wide range of limitations on offenders, Edwards can, largely, live as he pleases. If he wishes to travel abroad, then he is free to do so, provided he gives police seven days' notice of his plans. Nor are there any limitations on where he can go in the UK - everywhere from shopping centres to children's playgrounds are, technically, legally permissible.
JAN MOIR: There's something putrid in the BBC and the laughable punishment of Huw Edwards is further evidence of the rot
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 20, 2024
Yes, there was the possibility of a jail sentence of up to three years. Huw Edwards even carried his own suitcase into Westminster Magistrates' Court earlier this week, indicative of the fact that a part of his broken soul must have feared the worst. Yet in the end he was spared a judicial sentence by a chief magistrate who believed that the disgraced BBC anchor presented 'no threat' to the public. Six-month suspended sentence instead. Next case!
Rape victim, 43, whose father abused her from age three reveals fury at Huw Edwards being spared jail after claiming he had mental health issues
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 19, 2024
A rape victim who was abused by her father from the age of three has slammed Huw Edwards , claiming he blamed his paedophilia on poor mental health. The former BBC presenter was spared jail at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday after admitting accessing indecent images of children as young as seven. The 63-year-old previously admitted three charges of 'making' indecent photos after he was sent 41 illegal images by a convicted paedophile over WhatsApp. But Edwards only received a suspended sentence after the chief magistrate said his mental health at the time of the offences could have impaired his decision-making. District judge Paul Goldspring handed Edwards a six-month prison sentence which he suspended for two years, and declined to make a sexual harm prevention order. He also told Edwards he must attend 25 rehabilitation sessions and be placed on the sex offender treatment programme for 40 days. In addition, Edwards was told to pay £3,000 in prosecution costs and put on the sex offenders' register for seven years. But today, MailOnline spoke to 43-year-old Ally, an alias for a rape victim who said she was disgusted by Edwards's sentence and mental health defence.
Clive Myrie earns more from outside speaking gigs than any other BBC journalist - pocketing an extra £66,000 a year
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
Myrie, who already earns about £310,000 a year from the corporation, made the extra income from 11 events, according to a new report. The news host, who also co-hosted the recent BBC1 election night coverage, took part in three events that paid 'Over £10k', worth a minimum of £30,000. The real figure could be much higher. Myrie, 60, also made another seven appearances that each earned him between £5,000 and £10,000. The figures, revealed by industry publication Press Gazette, cover the year between the start of July 2023 and the end of June 2024.
Law should be changed after Huw Edwards's 'lenient' sentence, says victim's commissioner after it emerged outcome of disgraced newsman's case cannot be reviewed
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
The victim's commissioner (left) has joined mounting calls for the law to be changed after it emerged the outcome of Huw Edwards's (right) case cannot be reviewed. The former BBC newsreader received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, on Monday after he admitted possessing indecent images of children. The fact he was not sent to prison immediately has drawn criticism from some quarters but there is no way to change his sentence. There is a process for reviewing sentences, the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme, but it only applies to certain crown court sentences. Edwards was sentenced in a magistrates' court and is therefore not covered by the scheme. London's victims' commissioner has said that the rules for reviewing 'unduly lenient' sentences should be expanded to cover more crimes.
JENNI MURRAY: Losing my best friend hurt more than losing my parents
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
The message that flashed up on my iPad this morning felt like a punch to the stomach. It was a reminder from Facebook that it was my best friend's birthday, urging me to send her good wishes. I burst into tears. There would be no more birthdays. Last week I went to her funeral and I've never felt so lost, lonely and heartbroken. Yes, I've encountered grief before. My grandparents died when I was in my 20s and my parents in my 50s - of course I grieved for them and missed them, but the grief I feel now is overwhelming in a way I've never felt in all my life. You prepare yourself for losing the older generation of loved ones, it's the expected order of things but nothing prepares you for losing a contemporary who's been so close for so long.
Huw Edwards' ex-BBC colleague Emily Maitlis says she is 'horrified' and left 'absolutely speechless' after he was convicted of accessing child abuse images
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
Edwards, 63, avoided jail on Monday after being given a suspended six-month prison sentence, after he admitted to having 41 indecent images of children. The vile picture collection included seven category A images, the most serious classification, with two involving a child aged around seven to nine. Maitlis, 54, who worked with Edwards at the BBC, said she was left 'speechless' at his crimes. 'I'm horrified. I think we're all horrified. I worked with Huw on elections,' she told Good Morning Britain on Wednesday. '
Fury as it emerges Huw Edwards' 'lenient' sentence can't be reviewed by Attorney General because his case was heard in magistrates court
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
The sentence given to disgraced BBC star Huw Edwards cannot be reviewed or increased despite a barrage of complaints calling it too lenient. The former news presenter received a six-month suspended sentence on Monday after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of children as young as seven. The outcome sparked outrage from campaign groups, who said it was 'ludicrous, absurd and embarrassing' that he was allowed to walk out of court instead of being sent immediately to prison. Lord Richard Hermer KC, who is the Attorney General and the government's top legal advisor, is understood to have received multiple complaints from members of the public and politicians urging him to refer the case to the Court of Appeal. However, current rules mean that Edwards' case cannot be referred to appeal court judges, sparking calls for them to be changed.
