Hugo Raudsepp Life

Hugo Raudsepp (July 10, 1883 – September 15, 1952) was a prominent and prolific Estonian playwright and politician.

He was deported by the Soviet authorities in 1951 to the Irkutsk region, where he died.

Life

Victor Hugo Raudsepp was born in Vain, Valiant Manor, the son of a distillery. He first attended the local village and parish schools, then went to Tartu's city school until 1900. He began working as a clerk in a small retail store in Rakke Parish later this year. He served as a literary critic, writer, and columnist in various newspapers in 1907. He was politically active from 1917 to 1920, serving as deputy mayor of Viljandi and assistant at the Estonian Constituent Assembly's Secretariat. His political involvement faded afterward. Raudsepp, a literary critic for the journal Viola Maa, was active from 1920 to 1924. He contracted tuberculosis in 1924, which required a year of recovery. He worked in Elva and Tartu, 1936, and became a freelance writer. Raudsepp lived in Tallinn after the end of World War II. He became one of Estonia's top comedies and dramas while writing.

Raudsepp was deported in 1951 after being arrested by the Soviet occupation regime, who arrested him in 1950. He was sentenced to ten years of exile in Siberia with hard work. He died on September 28, 1952, when the Baikal-Amur Mainline was being built.
