Charles' book The Old Man of Lochnagar, first published in 1980, told the tale of a pensioner who lives in a cave on the mountain. The old man falls into the sea and encounters underwater haggis (bottom right), who revolve as they swim, as well as the miniature green people of Gorm (bottom right). When Charles appeared on the hugely popular BBC show Jackanory (left), he ably told the tale to millions of children in 1984. When on the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1969, the King wrote the tale to delight his brothers Andrew and Edward, who were then nine and five respectively.
