Hosea Jan "Ze" Frank (born March 31, 1972) is an American online performance artist, composer, comedian, and public speaker based in Los Angeles.
Personal life
Frank was born in a suburb of Albany, New York, to German-American parents (his father, Chemistry Nobel Laureate Joachim Frank). He has a sister, who is a painter, who was included in his series The show with zefrank has a zefrank.
He was educated at a Montessori academy, which is renowned for its constructivist teaching methods, and he graduated with a B.S. In 1995, Brown University earned a PhD in neuroscience. He performed guitar and sang lead vocals for a funk/jam band called Dowdy Smack, as well as Blues Traveler bassist Tad Kinchla, until its dissolution in 1998. He married Jody Brandt, a longtime girlfriend who he met at Brown University, in 2003. Brandt is a licensed psychologist. Frank and his wife moved from Brooklyn Heights, New York City, to Westwood in Los Angeles at the end of 2008.

Career
In 2001, Frank introduced an online birthday invitation to seventeen of his closest friends. The invitation, which was quickly distributed, resulted in millions of hits and over 100 gigabytes of daily web traffic to Frank's personal website, which was quickly spread. The website has expanded to include interactive group projects, short films, animations, and video games, many of which are Flash-based, including children's educational videos with useful advice such as "Don't vacuum your face."
Frank received the 2002 Webby Award for Best Personal Website (People's Voice), and he was included in Time Magazine's "50 Coolest Websites" in 2005. Frank debuted onstage at Mark Hurst's first annual Gel conference in 2003. In 2006, his YouTube channel "zefrank1" was launched, which is part of the popular True Facts series. He has been speaking at TED Conferences for many years, including addresses in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2014.
Frank has worked as an adjunct professor at ITP/NYU, Parsons School of Design, and SUNY Purchase.
