How much did YOUR hospital pocket in parking fees last year - UKs most money-grabbing Trusts revealed as NHS rakes in record £243 million from 'tax on the sick'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 18, 2024
The sum pocketed by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, £9.2million, is the highest amount ever recorded by a trust in a single year. Nationally, the NHS made £173.1million by levying fees on patients and visitors in 2023/24 and a further £69.8million on staff. The total figure of £242.9million is equivalent to £4.67million a week or £27,800 every hour. Patient groups say the cost can be crippling for those who need to make frequent visits to hospital and can deter friends and family from visiting.
As ice and snow are forecast to fall in England, the worst floods are likely to last for the next five days. There are 190 warnings and 200 warnings in place today in England, as well as one in Wales

January 7, 2024
More than 1,800 homes in the United Kingdom have been affected by the flood, which has caused more than 1,000 homes to be submerged for at least five days. Experts have warned. A prolonged wet weather, including a deluge of rain from Storm Henk on still wet ground, has risen to near-record levels, and there is no excuse for those whose properties are in danger. 190 flood warnings have been issued in England along the rivers Trent, Severn, and Thames, urging people to take precaution because 'water will flood' and highways will be blocked.' In Tendy, there is also one warning. Despite Sunday's forecast to be mainly dry but cold, the threat of more precipitation - some of which could fall as snow - in the coming days could exacerbate the situation.

More than 240 flood warnings STILL in place as Britain braces for Big Freeze and police blast 'stupid' drivers for moving 'road closed' signs and driving into floods
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 6, 2024
Around 250 flood warnings are still in place in England and Wales as a result of severe travel troubles across major areas of the region. However, although the Met Office predicts the wet weather has passed, water levels are still high and temperatures as low as minus 6C are predicted for the next two days, with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is is issuing a yellow cold weather warning. Since CCTV caught them stopping their cars, getting out, moving the signs out of the way, and driving forward, Leicestershire police slammed them.
The chaos in the mid-sea. Since cows drowned, 1,000 homes were evacuated, and rail lines and highways became rivers in flood victims, the Henk chaos has grown

January 5, 2024
This weekend, Britain's weather chaos will intensify as a cold weather warning is issued, with temperatures expected to drop to -6C (21F) in the midst of a major ice risk on saturated ground. Showers have continued in some regions throughout the day following 40 days of continuous rain that has brought floods to towns and villages around the United Kingdom. However, although more stable conditions are expected this weekend, it will be even cooler in rural South West England as the temperature drops to -4C (25F) and -6C (21F) in rural areas along the Welsh border in Shropshire. The UK Health and Security Agency has issued a cold weather warning covering the whole of England, beginning at 9 a.m. on the very wet surfaces, with temperatures likely to be below average overnight. A major flood risk in England remains, with 302 warnings and three32 warnings from Natural Resources Wales, bringing together a total of 649. Hundreds of people have been evacuated, cows drowned, rail lines have been blocked, and roads have been converted to rivers as a result of torrential rain.
Drivers make 63 claims for pothole damage every day with claims up by nearly 10,000 in 2023, new figures show as Lib Dems accuse Government of 'pothole pandemic'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 26, 2023
According to latest reports, drivers have made 63 claims for pothole-related injuries every day this year, with Liberal Democrats now accusing the government of a 'pothole pandemic.' Following the news that the number of pothole claims has increased by nearly 10,000 in the last year, the party called for complete restoration of road maintenance funds. According to statistics collected by 85 local authorities in England, income paid to motorists in 2022/23 increased on the previous year.
In the first deal of its kind to prevent'waterway pollution, the farmer is paid almost £1.5 million in public funds to discourage raising pigs

Farmers now have fears that they will be paid to sit on their hands, while the UK's food security - the amount of homegrown produce available for our tables - has been reduced even more. Markshall Farm (pictured), which is located south of Norwich on the A47 bypass south of Norwich, raises up to 2,000 pigs each year, providing nutrients that drain into two nearby rivers. Closing it down will allow planning officials to approve 5,000 homes throughout the county. Owner James Daniels told the Mail that he was receiving a "significant amount" for 'quitting' his career, but he maintained he was 'doing everyone a favour' by helping the environment.
Ed Davey's attempt to woo Tory voters by ending the party's annual housebuilding pledge was shot down by Lib Dems
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 25, 2023
Sir Ed Davey wanted to withdraw the party's pledge to build 380,000 houses in England a year each year and replace it with a target of 150,000 council houses. The party's leader said that top-down housing targets led to the construction of "the wrong houses in the wrong places" in an attempt to please southern Tory voters. However, his plans were dismissed at the party's conference yesterday after members backed a motion that suggested that dropping the pledge might alienate young voters.
Labour has screamed accusing Lib Dems of having 'gone feral' as two groups compete for Mid-Beds by-election with allegations of law enforcing as they both fight for Tory's seat
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 21, 2023
Labour has screamed over the Liberal Democrats' 'gone feral' and threatened legal action as a by-election election rages. The two groups are at war over the Mid-Bedfordshire election, which is scheduled on October 19th, if they both want to take the place of the Tories. Labour have written an 'cease and desist' letter, suggesting that the Lib Dem campaign may have violated a law. However, the Lib Dems have retaliated against Sir Keir Starmer's 'desperate' tactics. Nadine Dorries, Tory ex-Cabinet minister, resigns from the House of Commons, and the Mid-Bedfordshire by-election has been triggered. Both three main parties in England are aiming to win the competition. According to a recent constituency poll by Survation, Labour and the Conservatives are neck-and-neck, with the Lib Dems in a close third position. According to Labour's legal letter to the Lib Dems, they had accused the opposition party of two offences of the People Act.
Residents in a historic market town are outraged by a'shoddy' workmen for replacing paving stones with wonky tarmac
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 20, 2023
Residents in their historic town center have slammed contractors who left 'crazy' tarmac in place of paving stones. People living in Oswestry, Shropshire's market town, have blasted'shoddy' repair work, which now means visitors are welcomed with a wonky strip of asphalt in place of the original stone paving. Last week, the original stones had been ripped up by broadband providers, but they haven't been replaced as well, resulting in a rather odd black zig-zag. The sight, according to shoppers and staff, is a "disgrace" and a trip risk, and the tour hazard, although it is directly across the street from Grade I listed 15th century Llwyd Mansion, is unfit for the street. Helen Morgan, the town's MP, slammed the 'haphazard repair' for the 25-ft stretch of road and wrote to Shropshire Council asking answers. Contractors on behalf of Openreach refilled the holes after the paving stones were destroyed, according to the authority. The tarmac was a temporary measure, according to the Opener, who has promised to reinstall paving stones as soon as possible.

House rates are expected to decline by 5.6% in 2024, according to economic forecasters
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 15, 2023
A 1.1 percent drop in prices projected this year would raise in 2024 to a maximum of 5.7 percent, according to the Office of Budget Responsibility. With interest rates not expected to decline much below 4 percent for some time as economists attempt to lower inflation, it would place more pressure on mortgage-holders trying to refinance in the next 12-24 months. According to the OBR, it now expects that the rates will be down 10% from their high in the fourth quarter of last year, up from a forecast 9 percent in November.

Councils have been advised by road safety campaigners that they should maintain lollipop patrols, alerting that 50 children a day are killed or injured on UK roads. The Liberal Democrats, who have compiled the new estimates, accuse the government of jeopardizing child rights by reducing funding. According to county councils around England, an average of 150 lollipop women and men have been axed every year for the past seven years. At least 20 people have left their positions since 2015, out of 78 councils who responded in full to the FoI request. A historic 84 has been decommissioned from Hampshire County Council.
