Helen Morgan Life

Helen Morgan (August 2, 1900 – October 9, 1941) was an American singer and actress who appeared in film and on stage. * She made a name for herself in Chicago's club scene in the 1920s. * Julie LaVerne appeared in the original Broadway production of Hammerstein and Kern's musical Show Boat in 1927, as well as in the 1932 Broadway revival of the musical, and she appeared in two film adaptations, a part-talkie made in 1929 (prologue only) and a full-sound version in 1936, becoming well-known for the role. * She suffered from bouts of alcoholism, and despite her notable success in the title role of another Hammerstein and Kern's Broadway musical, Sweet Adeline (1929), her stage career was relatively short. Helen Morgan died of cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 41. She was portrayed by Polly Bergen in the Playhouse 90 drama The Helen Morgan Story and by Ann Blyth in the 1957 biopic based on the television drama.

How much did YOUR hospital pocket in parking fees last year - UKs most money-grabbing Trusts revealed as NHS rakes in record £243 million from 'tax on the sick'

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 18, 2024
The sum pocketed by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, £9.2million, is the highest amount ever recorded by a trust in a single year. Nationally, the NHS made £173.1million by levying fees on patients and visitors in 2023/24 and a further £69.8million on staff. The total figure of £242.9million is equivalent to £4.67million a week or £27,800 every hour. Patient groups say the cost can be crippling for those who need to make frequent visits to hospital and can deter friends and family from visiting.

As ice and snow are forecast to fall in England, the worst floods are likely to last for the next five days. There are 190 warnings and 200 warnings in place today in England, as well as one in Wales

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2024
More than 1,800 homes in the United Kingdom have been affected by the flood, which has caused more than 1,000 homes to be submerged for at least five days. Experts have warned. A prolonged wet weather, including a deluge of rain from Storm Henk on still wet ground, has risen to near-record levels, and there is no excuse for those whose properties are in danger. 190 flood warnings have been issued in England along the rivers Trent, Severn, and Thames, urging people to take precaution because 'water will flood' and highways will be blocked.' In Tendy, there is also one warning. Despite Sunday's forecast to be mainly dry but cold, the threat of more precipitation - some of which could fall as snow - in the coming days could exacerbate the situation.

Flooding in the United Kingdom is expected to persist for five days more, according to the Environment Agency, as thousands of people were evacuated today with 191 flood warning in place

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2024
Yesterday, more than 1,800 people were forced to evacuate, but the Environment Agency's 191 flood warnings and a further 207 flood warnings have been issued today. High water levels are likely in areas around the rivers Trent, Severn, and Thames valleys, which are expected to be impacted by continued heavy downpours into next week.
