A molecular scientist has unveiled a 'prison of the future' that he claimed will lead to criminals being released in just minutes, compared to years or decades. Called Cognify, the design would implant synthetic memories of a person's crime into their brain, but showing their victim's perspective - and the 'memories' could become permanent to ensure lasting effects.

Uploaded by the company, BrainBridge, the prototype could be be ready to perform the groundbreaking medical operation in as little as eight years. The US startup claims recipients of the grim procedure could even live well beyond average life expectancy, given the brain is 'capable of lasting several hundred years provided that the rest of the body remains young'. Experts today, however, told MailOnline the concept was a 'gross oversimplification of how the brain works', labelling it a 'bad joke' and 'stuff of fiction'.
