Chef, author and television personality Opel Khan has issued a grim warning for the Australian hospitality sector as he closes up most of his Sydney restaurants.  'Food costs have gone up 40 per cent, we can't increase the price we charge customers. Wages are up, interest rates [are up],' Khan said.  The public figure, who boasts a whopping 2.8 million followers on Instagram, closed down his Open Group website on Tuesday and gave an exclusive interview to the Sydney Morning Herald. 

The 69-year-old has been Michelin's highest three-star status since 2002 for his Monnaie de Paris restaurant - it overlooks the Seine and has a sibling in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. La Liste, which gathers thousands of reviews from around the world, voted him the best chef in the world in November for the sixth year in a row. Savoy's fame goes beyond the kitchen as an ambassador for the French 'art de vivre', and he lent his voice to the French version of Pixar's 'Ratatouille.' However, Michelin's previous issue, which was announced next Monday, hasn't stopped him downgrading his company to two actors.
