Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov praised Spurs' team effort for their second goal against Brighton. A Timo Werner cutback inside of the Brighton area tee'd-up James Maddison, who cooly slotted past keeper, Bart Verbruggen. But Berbatov hailed the entire team effort from top to bottom, as a well-worked move began with a quick turnover from Spurs' keeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

The Brazilian centre back's transformation has made him a pillar of Arsenal 's backline - and, crucially, the key to their set-piece plans. The 26-year-old has scored twice from corners this season: a bullet header to seal a 1-0 win over Tottenham and another header in the hard-fought 2-2 draw with Manchester City .

Manchester United 's miserable 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur left fans asking tough questions about individual performances. With several players failing to meet expectations, the match exposed weaknesses all over the pitch. Who were the main culprits in United's collapse, and how did Spurs capitalise so effectively? Some new signings, expected to make an impact, struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League .

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - OLIVER HOLT AT OLD TRAFFORD: The truth is that Ten Hag is out of excuses. His time is up. There is no hiding place for him any more. His boasts about winning minor trophies are worthless when his team plays like this. Let's be honest about what United stand for as we enter the autumn of the year: no philosophy, no identity, no discipline, no guile, no pattern, no determination, no adventure, no belief, no subtlety, no desire, no intent, no plan. Apart from that, everything's fine. United's attitude stinks. Entitlement runs through them and Ten Hag simply cannot eradicate it, however big he talks and however tough he acts. 

DANNY MURPHY: Manchester United are a club used to playing their way and blowing away the opposition but they aren't good enough to rely on that any more. While fans might consider it a negative approach, Erik ten Hag needs to find a plan that factors in the strengths and weaknesses of Tottenham - otherwise there's every chance they'll lose. I hope for his sake he's been working on making special provision to stop James Maddison dictating the game - and exploiting the obvious weakness of Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario at set-pieces.

Spurs got their Europa League campaign off to a winning start on Thursday night as they defeated Qarabag, despite having 10 men for almost the whole game after Radun Dragusin's early red card. Dominic Solanke, Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson were all on the scoresheet for Ange Postecoglou's side, with the Australian once again sticking to his attacking principles when a man down. But they also had to rely on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on more than one occasion, while Toral Bayramov skied a penalty when the score was 2-0.

Tottenham's home game against Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League has been delayed due to travel chaos in north London. The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was initially scheduled to kick off at 8pm. However, that time was pushed back as the away team had not even arrived by 7.20pm, while tens of thousands of fans were also running late.

MATT BARLOW: If points were handed out for irritability Tottenham would not be wallowing in midtable. Not with Ange Postecoglou setting the tone.  Getting narkier by the game, in a hurry to take umbrage, seemingly aghast there have not been more gushing reviews about his team's performances. On Saturday after beating Brentford, he was annoyed to find himself fielding questions about his goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario handling outside the penalty area and getting away with it. 

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha was left perplexed as VAR appeared to miss Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario handle the ball outside his box. The incident occurred early in the second half as Tottenham looked to preserve a 2-1 lead over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But a moment of madness from Vicario had Spurs fans' hearts in mouths.

Ange Postecoglou spent his summer holidaying in the sweltering Greek islands where temperatures can reach 86 degrees. Back in north London, as autumn approaches and the air starts to cool, Postecoglou continues to feel the heat. Four points from their opening four Premier League matches has made for an indifferent start for a Tottenham side that last season looked like they may challenge for the title.

INTERVIEW BY JAMES SHARPE: Guglielmo Vicario knew, deep down, that he'd gone too far. He was lost in the heat of battle, where emotions run high and tempers can flare, but still the Tottenham goalkeeper had to admit he was wrong. Lucas Bergvall, the 18-year-old Swede on debut, had given the ball away in second-half stoppage time in Spurs' opening game against Leicester and forced the Italian into making a late save to keep the scores level. Vicario let rip. He jumped to his feet and screamed at the teenager, running towards him and punching the air, his eyes wide and manic. The blond-haired Bergvall could only shrug his shoulders and puff out his cheeks.

Tottenham Hotspur have handed new squad numbers to two of the club's most promising talents, ahead of their pre-season tour to Asia. Spurs have already played two friendlies since their pre-season began earlier in July, with two victories courtesy of 7-2 thumping of SPL team Hearts, and a 2-0 win over Championship side, QPR. Manager Ange Postecogolou has since picked his squad for Spurs' summer tour of Japan and South Korea, and will be taking 31 players - including a clutch of their exciting young talent.

Nicolo Fagioli has been named in Italy's final squad for Euro 2024 despite only recently returning from a seven-month ban for gambling violations. The Juventus midfielder was included in Italy's provisional squad shortly after he made his return to action. Fagioli was suspended in October and had to undergo treatment for a gambling addiction. He was also fined £10,850.

MATT BARLOW: There were plenty of ups and several downs, but things were never dull in Ange Postecoglou's first season at Tottenham. Spurs raced out the blocks at the start of the Australian's tenure, rising to the top of the Premier League table following an unbeaten 10-game run. However, things came crashing down in one of the most bizarre and chaotic Premier League games of all-time when they lost 4-1 to Chelsea at the start of November having been reduced to nine men.

JACK GAUGHAN AT THE TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM: Manchester City regained their standing at the top of the Premier League table, taking a two-point advantage over Arsenal, after Erling Haaland scored twice to give Pep Guardiola's side a 2-0 victory against Tottenham on Tuesday night.  For Spurs, the defeat meant that they will now miss out on Champions League qualification next season, with Aston Villa five points clear of Ange Postecoglou's side in fourth place, with a game to play.  A cagey first half saw both goalkeepers called into action, with Guglielmo Vicario producing a sensational save to deny Phil Foden's strike. At the other end of the pitch, Ederson denied Spurs an opener after Brennan Johnson wove his way into the Man City box before unleashing a strike towards the bottom-right corner of the goal, which the Brazilian sensationally kept out. He would later be substituted after suffering head injury in what was a sickening collision with Cristian Romero.  

Ange Postecoglou defended his Tottenham side after they fell to a fourth successive defeat on an afternoon where two of his players were involved in a bust-up on the pitch. With Tottenham trailing 2-0 at half-time, Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal broke into an argument in the middle of the pitch and came face-to-face before goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario had to separate the two defenders. 'They care. They are not going to just be happy with the current situation,' Postecoglou insisted. 'Because they care, they want to improve. There is nothing wrong with that as long as it stays constructive. They want to change and the situation and not just accept it,' added the Spurs boss.

Tottenham defenders Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal were involved in a heated argument during the match against Liverpool.  Ange Postecoglou's side continued their poor from in the first half at Anfield when Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a header inside 16 minutes.  Andy Robertson then tapped the ball home from close-range to double Liverpool's lead just before the break. 

Liverpool fans were quick to hail Harvey Elliott's 'absolute screamer' of a goal to give Jurgen Klopp's Reds a four-goal lead over Tottenham on Sunday. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Cody Gakpo had already scored for the hosts at Anfield before Elliott's beautiful goal, which for many supporters was a cherry on top of a superb performance. Salah poked the ball into the path of Elliott, and he took it onto his left foot before unleashing a sensational strike into the top corner of Guglielmo Vicario's goal. 

ISAAN KHAN AT THE EMIRATES: It is those pesky dark arts Ben White deploys which have turned the attention away from his playing ability of late. As seen against Tottenham last weekend, White in the opposition penalty area on corner-kicks is a menace. That day he had a part to play in two of Arsenal's goals, appearing to try undo goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario's gloves before the ball reached the box for the first goal. And then for the third goal, scored by Kai Havertz, he backed into Vicario on the goal-line to leave him planted there.

Ange Postecoglou does not believe Tottenham have a set-piece issue. Spurs lost 3-2 at home to Arsenal on Sunday and two of the goals conceded were from corners, which takes the overall number of goals they have shipped in the Premier League from set-pieces - excluding penalties - to 14. It has become a topic of discussion around Tottenham in recent months after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario struggled from set-pieces in matches with Manchester and Everton earlier this year.

Ben White has been caught undoing the gloves of Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from the corner that put Arsenal ahead in the north London derby. Bukayo Saka 's inswinging corner was headed into the back of his own net by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Sunday's north London derby promises to be one of the biggest in recent memory with both clubs still having so much left to play for. As if the rivalry alone isn't enough, Arsenal are still firmly in the hunt for their first league title in 20 years, while Tottenham are hoping to pip Aston Villa to the fourth and final Champions League spot. It is set to be a red-hot atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and could come down to which of the two young teams can keep their heads under pressure.

Goals in both halves from the Swede took his tally for the season to 21 and helped bump Newcastle up to sixth place. Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar also got in on the act as Newcastle, who now have 10 points in their last four games, continued their recent revival. It was a clumsy day for Van de Ven, who slipped twice to allow Isak and Gordon a free hit at the hapless Guglielmo Vicario from point-blank range.
