DAILY MAIL COMMENT: The army in the United Kingdom must act as a weapon, not a facade

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 15, 2024
Governor General Grigory Potemkin of Russia built a series of sham villages to impress his lover and empress Catherine the Great in 18th century Russia and disguise the country's dismal state. What she found as she was driven through them were bright, freshly painted houses and shop fronts. This gaudy facade, on the other hand, was emptiness and decay. The belief of the Potemkin village has since been used to refer to any showy display designed to mask an unpleasant truth. Although it would be an exaggeration to say that this describes our national defenses, there are nevertheless troubling parallels. We have two £3.5 billion state-of-the-art aircraft carriers. In an hour of need, we've invested upwards of £12 billion to assist Ukraine in its hour of need. And we're in the vanguard of international efforts to protect Red Sea shipping from Houthi rebel attacks

In the midst of looting reports, Russian troops were found looting RACOON from Kherson zoo

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 14, 2022
Since being released on Sunday, a video showing a Russian zookeeper stealing animals from a Ukrainian zoo assisted by Russian troops has been sluggish. The video shows zookeeper Oleg Zubkov bundled a llama into a van (left) and a racoon being picked up by its tail (left) and put into a cage as it tries to escape. A pair of wolves were seen in a new video in Ukraine's recently released Kherson as they arrived in Crimea's Taigan Lion Park, which is owned by Mr Zubkov. Ukrainian authorities, who have accused Russia of looting Kherson when it pulls its forces from the liberated city, have condemned the operation.

In a recent war video, Ukrainian troops fight for their lives

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 8, 2022
Kyiv's men are shown firing rifles, machine guns, and rockets at Russian troops while also rushing to save the life of a wounded comrade, according to a video caught on an unknown battlefield somewhere in Ukraine. It appears that the video was shot in recent weeks, and that although it is uncertain where it was caught, it comes as warnings of an attack in Kherson's city is imminent. According to a city spokesperson, the situation is'serious' and that the last civilian evacuations will take place today. Officials in the United States believe the evacuation is primarily covering a Russian expulsion from Kherson, but Kyiv's generals have warned that this may have been a plot to lure their troops into a death trap.
