Gordon Matthew Miller (born June 21, 1964) is a Canadian sportscaster for Bell Media's sports cable network TSN.
He is a play-by-play announcer for the NHL on TSN, and he is the lead announcer for TSN's coverage of international hockey, including the IIHF World Under-20 Hockey Championships.
He covers the annual NHL Draft, provides play-by-play for Canadian Football League games, and plays a role in the United States for NBCSN.
Early life
Miller was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on June 21, 1965. Miller, a student at McKernan Junior High School, protested a proposed curfew for children under the age of 16. He received over 3,000 names to petition the curfew and was successful. Miller attended Strathcona High School alongside Guy Gadowsky after graduating from McKernan Junior High School.
Miller accepted a job as a radio reporter at an Edmonton Oilers home game, where he had the opportunity to interview Wayne Gretzky.
Career
Miller first started working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), where he covered the Edmonton Oilers. In 1990, he joined TSN as a reporter and occasionally called NHL hockey when needed. He started playing hockey play-by-play on the network's Canadian Hockey League coverage, including the Memorial Cup and more frequent NHL assignments in 1994. He began his career as a member of TSN's annual World Junior Ice Hockey Championships coverage, first as a rinkside reporter and secondary play-by-play announcer, before becoming the lead announcer in 2002. He also covered the IIHF World Championships and the Women's World Championships.
He was host of That's Hockey from 1998 to 2001 and then returned to the broadcast booth in 2001 as the English television play-by-play voice of the Montreal Canadiens on TSN's regional feed for one season.
When TSN regained national broadcast rights to the NHL in 2002, Miller became the NHL's top hockey play-by-play announcer. He was teamed up with Pierre McGuire. The men's ice hockey tournament in Vancouver was named by Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium in 2010. Since TSN lost the national contract to competitor Sportsnet and its parent company Rogers Media in 2014, he now calls play-by-play for Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators regional games on TSN, while still being the country's biggest play-by-play broadcaster.
Miller outlined the track and field performances at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London for the Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium's Canada, including the 100m final featuring Usain Bolt.
Miller was one of the Stanley Cup playoff announcers on ESPN in 2022.
