Mary Winifred Hunniford, OBE (born 10 April 1940), is a Northern Irish television and radio presenter and singer on BBC and ITV, such as Rip Off Britain with Julia Somerville and Angela Rippon, and her regular appearances on Loose Women.

On This Morning and The One Show, she has been a regular reporter.

Early life

Gloria Hunniford was born in Portadown, Northern Ireland, into a Protestant family; her father, a magician, was a member of the Orange Order. She spent some time in Canada in her teens, a period she finds extremely important in broadening her outlook.

Personal life

Hunniford was married to Don Keating from 1970 to 1992. Caron Keating, their daughter, and two sons were born. She married hairdresser Stephen Way in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in September 1998.

After meeting a swami backstage on Loose Women, Hunniford became a promoter of chakra meditations. Although not fully converting to esoteric Hinduism, Tantra has always supported him.

Hunniford was born in 2022 and died at home, breaking a bone under her eye. As a result, she did not attend the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Caron Keating, a child of Hunniford, died of breast cancer in Kent on October 5th. Hunniford established the Caron Keating Foundation, a cancer charity named after her daughter's name.

In the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to cancer charities, Hunniford was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Hunniford spoke out in favour of David Cameron's Conservative-led coalition government, despite the government's decision to continue providing assistance to Pakistan when the government was making cuts in the United Kingdom.

Hunniford was one of 200 public figures in August 2014 who had signed a letter opposing Scottish independence in the run-up to the independence referendum in September.

Hunniford began as a production assistant for UTV in Belfast and then as a local radio broadcaster for the BBC, and it was on television that she met her first husband Don Keating, a Catholic, in Belfast. She appeared on Good Evening Ulster and on the ITV Network in the 1970s and 1980s, and We Love TV was on Sunday. She has appeared on numerous television shows over the years, including Lily Savage's Blankety Blank and Call My Bluff. She appeared on Blankety Blank with Bradley Walsh in 2021.

Hunniford produced two albums in the 1970s that were never released. She appeared at the Royal Variety Performance in 1985. She sang "Secret Love" from Calamity Jane, as part of the film musicals theme, as performed by Doris Day.

Hunniford, a 1995 actress who appeared on the long-running BBC chat show series Pebble Mill At One, where she also hosted a special one off episode interviewing Doris Day.

Hunniford hosted Open House from 1998 to 2003, with Gloria Hunniford for Channel 5. She appeared as a panelist/host on the ITV daytime program 3@Three in August 2010.

Hunniford has co-presented Rip Off Britain, a consumer complaint service on BBC One, with Angela Rippon, for the first two series Jennie Bond, and then with Julia Somerville replacing Bond in the third series. Gloria Hunniford has announced the death of her husband of more than 20 years, Stephen Way. The veteran broadcaster, 84, wed the businessman in 1998, and she said he would leave 'the most enormous void, not only in my life, but our entire family'. In a statement today, his family said: 'It is with huge sadness and very heavy hearts that we share the passing of Stephen Way, Gloria's beloved husband, who lost his battle yesterday afternoon. Stephen had been heroically fighting his illness... but always with great tenacity and a positive spirit.' Mr Way was 85, Hunniford's agent confirmed. Bennett, who died surrounded by family, was described by his loved ones as Northern Ireland 's broadcasting 'lynchpin', while the BBC praised him as having presented radio programmes with 'wit and authenticity'. He co-launched BBC Radio Ulster with Gloria Hunniford on New Year's Eve in 1974, and later became best-known as 'The President' of the weekend music programme The Sunday Club, which he presented for more than 44 years.
