Michael James (left), 61, resigned from his position as an ESE tutor at O.J. Semmes Elementary (right) opened on Tuesday, just a day before classes resumed in session. He said the incident really 'floored' him and prompted him to write a letter to Florida's top politicians, including Governor Ron DeSantis (inset). The instructor continued to inspire his students, who are mainly black and ranging in age from five to eleven years old. At O.J., the minority student population is at 95%. According to Great Schools, 79 percent of black students attended Semmes Elementary, with 12 percent being white, two percent being hispanic, and six percent being 'two or more races.'
