ALISON BOSHOFF: George Michael had a secret fling with Madonna's younger brother
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 18, 2024
Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone fell out for a time with his famous sister after publishing a memoir about her life and career in 2008. Happily, they were reconciled before his death earlier this month, with the singer forgiving him for spilling the beans on her romances with beaus including Warren Beatty. One fling which didn't make the book - but which Chris was happy to share - was between superstar singer George Michael and himself. The fleeting romance happened around 1989 - the year when Madonna hogged the headlines for kissing George on stage at the MTV Awards. Newspapers at the time wrongly reported that she and the former Wham! man were an item, with one article quoting the Material Girl as telling a friend: 'I'm really wild about George.'

It was an event I never expected to attend, but there I was on September 6, 1997, walking in bright sunshine to Westminster Abbey, writes CHARLES RAE. As hundreds of thousands of people massed in the area surrounding the historic church, I was on my way inside for the funeral of Princess Diana. Just a week earlier, she had been tragically killed in a car crash in Paris at the age of just 36. The death of the 'People's Princess' - which I had covered as a royal correspondent - prompted an outpouring of grief among millions. Literally hundreds of thousands of bouquets of flower had been laid outside her home at Kensington Palace, as well as Buckingham Palace and Balmoral in Scotland. And the tears from around the world could have filled an ocean.

JAN MOIR: The stupid and selfish Cult of Me generation should try surviving in a war zone
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 5, 2024
Hate to sound like a misanthrope, but I do despair about humanity. When did people get so stupid and selfish? What happened to common sense? Was it washed away on the outgoing tide, along with raw intelligence and compassion for our fellow innocents? Not to mention the old school belief of banding together for the greater good of all. I'm not discussing the major topics, such as the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, but God knows, they are not bad enough. We've arrived at a point where the entire civilized world is urging President Putin and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in Israel to refrain from the fighting and bombing and killing, but no one is paying attention.
