Career
Hook's career has included stints as a commuter for CIÉ and then as a traveling salesman for the Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys). For over twenty years, he operated a catering company. In the 1987 Rugby World Cup, he coached London Irish and Connacht, as well as the US national team.
On Newstalk, the Right Hook, Hook's radio show, was a hit late afternoon to early evening drive-time show. On air by Hook, his wife, "the lovely Ingrid," was routinely exposed to having her intimate information debated and dissected.
Hook appeared on RTÉ on a regular basis, most often with host Tom McGurk and fellow pundit Brent Pope, and most recently as a judge on RTÉ celebrity dancing competition Jigs & Reels. He has also been parodied in The State of Us. "Time Added On" was his autobiography published in 2005. The book chronicled his time in industry and his career derailment.
Hook announced on January 26, 2014, that he would abandon Newstalk in 2016 and television punditry following the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but that RTÉ lost the right for Irish broadcasting to television3.
