Max Verstappen WINS dramatic Canadian Grand Prix ahead of Lando Norris - with George Russell third

JONATHAN MCEVOY IN MONTREAL: It should have been Lando Norris standing on the top step of the podium, his slim world championship hopes having caught fire in a pulsating Canadian Grand Prix of thrills and perils in the rain. But it wasn't to be, the intervention of a safety car, and his McLaren team's sluggish response to it, condemning the Briton to a never-say-die second place behind the unignorable Max Verstappen, who else? Yet the most stirring memories - the ones that should have secured the win - were of Norris dancing through the early squalls as nimbly as Gene Kelly, weaving his superlative McLaren into the lead as if twirling his umbrella as he went, past Verstappen and Mercedes' pole-man George Russell.

ALISON BOSHOFF: Hundreds of nefarious remarks have been posted on Chalamet's Instagram page - where he is viewed by 18.4 million viewers since the SNL sketch was shown. Hundreds of people say, 'Boycott Wonka.' Others accuse the actor of'supporting genocide' and displaying 'white privilege.' Many people have said that they will never watch a film starring Chalamet and that they are no longer devoted followers. 'Free Palestine' is a Palestinian flag or the word used to describe it.'
Michael Parkinson in his own words: How the talk show legend made Jane Fonda cry, refused to interview Barbara Streisand and made a fool out of himself with Clint Eastwood

MICHAEL PARKINSON: Fred Astaire was the one I was most awe of among the many celebrities to appear on Parkinson's; he was the one I was most awed of. I love dance, adore dancers, and have never seen anyone close to Astaire. "I dance like a truck driver," Gene Kelly told me. He dances like an aristocrat.' We asked Fred Astaire if he would dance on the show. He said his dancing days were over, but he'll perform a few of the songs that had been written for him. He was apprehension over the interview, but not sure he was interesting enough to warrant an hour long appearance.
GLENNYS ROBERTS: I was in charge of Tony Bennett's handwriting and performed Fly Me To The Moon on the day

I was just about as ill as anyone else when the plane landed in Los Angeles last summer. My marriage to tailor-to-the-stars Doug Hayward was going nowhere, and I'd decided to get away from it all by visiting Sandy, the wife of American singer Tony Bennett, who died last month at the age of 96. Sandy and I were pregnant together when Tony first arrived in London in 1969. Doug made Tony's suit and wanted to take him home for dinner, so the Bennetts spent a lot of time at our Mayfair apartment. Tony was a man of few words, but he kept coming back for my toad in the hole. Sandy was - and remains - one of the funniest people I've ever met. If ever we want to banish a bout of depression, my daughter and I still call her in Las Vegas, where she now lives. We were so excited to get our figures back that we spent a lot of time in London's Bond Street shopping clothes that the boys - Joanna, named after one of Tony's songs, and my lovely Polly - were born just two weeks apart.

Why is today's movies so depressing, confusing, and interminably boring, as JOAN COLLINS asks?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 3, 2023
JOAN COLLINS: From handing over the tickets and finding your seat to the anticipation and excitement of seeing the advertisements for forthcoming attractions, I've loved the whole experience of cinemagoing. However, I've noticed recently that films tend to be divided into a few rather predictable groups. First, the plot is free, as in the trailers on a recent outing to the theater. They were mainly science fiction: futuristic, computer-generated potboilers. The dismal films that make you completely dissatisfied, as many of those nominated for this year's Oscar competitions are included in the second camp.

Using Olivia's words, John Easterling wrote: "Our love for each other transcends our comprehension." Every day we expressed our gratitude for this love, which could be so deep, so real, and so natural. We never had to 'work' on it. We were in awe of this amazing mystery and shared our love as past, present, and forever.' After suffering from cancer for years, the beloved actress died on Monday.
According to CHRISTOPHER STEVENS, Olivia Newton-John had a difficult time finding a man who would live up to her father
www.dailymail.co.uk,

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Patrick McDermott, 48, of San Pedro, California, joined 22 others for an overnight sea fishing trip one night. He never recovered. His wallet and backpack were discovered onboard, and his car was abandoned at the marina. McDermott had enough trouble to explain his disappearance. Chance is the bankrupt and he had no assets other than a clapped-out Toyota. Men like McDermott are hardly unusual - in fact, the US government has a word for them: deadbeat dads. But there was one extraordinary thing about this man. He had been dating Hollywood actress Olivia Newton-John for nearly nine years, Penniless as he was. Friends characterized her as 'cut up' and 'devastated' as she vanished.
Olivia Newton-John's Most Iconic Films Are Recalling
www.popsugar.co.uk,

It's difficult to look back on American cinema without remembering Olivia Newton-John, the iconic singer and actress who died at the age of 73 after a decades-long battle with breast cancer on August 8th.
Of course, the majority recall her appearance in 1978's "Grease" as an innocent teenager. Sandra Dee played "plain Sandra Dee," which included performing a number of now-iconic songs such as "You're the One That I Want" alongside actress John Travolta (one of many actors to publicly honor Newton-John after her death). She appeared in 1980's "Xanadu," the musical-fantasy film starring Gene Kelly, which resulted in her number one hit with the track "Magic." However, those were only a few of her performances.
