Donald Trump recalled the tips and tricks golf legend Gary Player offered him to help improve his game. The former president, 78, teed it up with US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau in a YouTube challenge released Tuesday. As Trump and the LIV golfer embarked on their conquest to score a round under 50, the presidential candidate revealed Player had given him a piece of advice to better navigate the fairways. As Trump stood on the tee box on a par-three at his Bedminster golf course, he admitted the South African golfer had once corrected a fatal error he had been making when teeing off on the shorter holes.
PAUL LAWRIE EXCLUSIVE: 'I'd never play a tournament I haven't a chance of winning. You have to let the young guys play instead'. The 1999 Open champion explains why he turned down a place at Royal Troon this week

The question is serious. What has the passing of 25 years done to the magical memory of winning golf's biggest prize, the Open Championship? The answer from Paul Lawrie is not so serious. 'It's added an extra three stone and a head of grey hair,' he replies. The 55-year-old Aberdonian is making light of one of the great sporting comebacks. Never before in the history of the majors had anyone come back from a ten-shot deficit going into the final round. That play-off victory at Carnoustie on July 18, 1999 was truly remarkable. 'Some things are quite fresh in the memory about what happened that day, that week,' he recalls. 'That's whether or not you get into the debate about me getting enough credit for doing what I did.

How golf's split - and reunion - caused some of the ugliest spats in sport

For a brief moment on Sunday evening, the RBC Canadian Openway turned away from the seismic events of the previous few weeks to the 18th green. In front of a home audience in dramatic circumstances, Nick Taylor won his third victory on the PGA Tour. During a playoff against Tommy Fleetwood, the Canadian claimed a dramatic and tough win. And although Adam Hadwin was tackled to the ground by a security guard on the 18th green, the evening brought a rosier tone to what had been a bizarre and difficult week for golf.

Despite finishing third in the world, Tiger Woods MAKES the cut in what may be his last Masters championship appearance
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 8, 2023
The gloomy, rainy weather on Saturday morning made him a poor omen for the five-time champion and his fight to make the weekend as he stumbled to finish three-over after two rounds with the predicted cut time at two-over. But the 15-time major winner was denied by close friend Justin Thomas after his fellow American dropped shots on 17 and 18, causing the projected cut line to fold over, despite the protagonist losing it himself. Woods has tied for the most consecutive cuts made at 23 years with Gary Player and Fred Couples, making it to the weekend for his latest Augusta outing.

Rory McIlroy's ready for date of destiny as he looks to make history
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 4, 2023
On Tuesday, Rory McIlroy was on good form at the microphone, and it was never in doubt. If golf were played in a press auditorium, he'd knock Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus right out of the history books. He talked of being reassured, the importance of a quick start, and his eagerness for the completion of Grand Slams. However, he also addressed fear, specifically the belief that 'always' lives in mind of those who were tailor-made for Augusta but who have never been approved for a green jacket. He knew he'd have more in common with Greg Norman one day than he cared to consider.
Gary Player, the world's youngest 87-year-old, has lived one of sport's most extraordinary lives

BY RIATH AL-SAMMARRAI: Gary Player was striding through an airport recently, according to an exclusive interview. He does it a lot. He says he's up to 16 million air miles, and this being Player, he considers it a world record. This being a player, he might even be correct. But that is not the point. It has to do with a chat he had while sitting down in his new book as an 87-year-old widower 'looking for a woman that will have me'. Parts of the tale are sad, but he much enjoyed one of his conversations as he cleared customs in Cape Town. 'I met this lady,' he tells Sportsmail. "You're looking so young," she says to me. "Yes, and I'm feeling great," I said.

Gary Player, a golf Saudi ambassador, hit Australian golfer Cameron Smith, who recently joined the LIV tour, in what could be described as a bit of friendly fire. Smith is expected to face off in his first event with the tour this weekend in a tournament outside of Boston. In an interview with the BBC, a nine-time major winner widely considered to be one of the best golfers of all time, the player challenged the tour's legitimacy and doubted Smith's decision making.
