More than 12,000 people have signed a petition urging New Mexico teenager Alexee Trevizo, who is accused of murdering her newborn child, from attending college. Trevizo, 19, (left in hospital, right, inset with her boyfriend), gave birth to her son in a bathroom at the Artesia General Hospital on January 27 before putting his body in a garbage can. The baby's 'wasn't crying' when she gave birth to him alone and was a newborn, according to the prosecutors, although she killed him by strangling him. Since a judge amended her bail terms so as to encourage her to attend her classes in person, more than 12,000 people have signed a petition to boot Treviso out of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. According to the petition, which was started by Evelyn Grasiano on Change.org, Treviso will continue to attend college despite being charged with a "heinous offence" on her record.

On Tuesday, a New Mexico teenager accused of murdering her newborn baby in a hospital toilet was shown for the first time. During her virtual court appearance, Alexee Trevizo, 19, sat behind her counsel as he discussed the specifics of her forthcoming trial, where she will argue her innocence. Gary Mitchell, her counsel, has agreed to the trial, which will be held on October 2nd.

After showing up complaining of back pain, Trevizo, 19, gave birth in the Artesia General Hospital's lavatory on January 27. She put her baby boy's body inside a garbage can for cleaners to find after delivering her baby alone. She claims he was still born. Prosecutors believe she strangled him, despite their argument that the baby had air in his lungs when he died. Alexee hasn't spoken out since she was charged, but her counsel Gary Mitchell told DailyMail.com that she has been wrongly dismissed.

Trevizo, 19, has been charged with first degree murder for throwing her newborn baby's body inside a garbage can under a plastic bag at Artesia General Hospital in New Mexico on January 27. Rosa Rodriguez, her mother, told investigators that she didn't know she was pregnant and that they had to go to the hospital because of back pains.
