The photos that shattered NASA's hopes of life on Mars: First ever images of the Red Planet snapped 59 years ago revealed a barren planet - squashing the belief it was a haven for aliens

With their jagged grooves and round dimples, these grainy grey images could be mistaken for the surface of the moon. But they actually show a much more distant member of our solar system - Mars. They were snapped by NASA 's Mariner 4 plucky spacecraft on July 15, 1965, to reveal more about our rusty red planetary neighbour. Until then, telescopic images of Mars - namely enigmatic dark patches on its surface - triggered the belief that it was home to an alien civilization. But Mariner 4 revealed a barren planet, squashing the belief it was a haven for life.

Alice Keppel, Edward VII's mistress, likes sun herself in Italy, where her great-grandmother Queen Camilla spent her childhood holidays playing hide and seek

Camilla spent her childhood holidays in the soaring frescoed rooms, playing hide and seek in the massive mazes of ancient statues, as well as running free in the spacious grounds dotted with ancient monuments. The Villa dell'Ombrellino, which was previously owned by Italian scientist Galileo Galilei in the 16th century, was completed in 1372. During Alice's lifetime, the palace was a magnet for passing European royalty a hundred years ago with cash.

Saturn's rings are a 'new phenomena' at 400million years old

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 12, 2023
Scientists at the University of Colorado, Boulder, spent 13 years measuring the rate at which it accumulated on the planet's rings, a process that they compared to determining the age of a house by running a finger along its walls.

The 'collapsed' wall that resulted in the expulsion of Playboy's model turned-Italian Princess Princess Dorian

After her step-children told the court that the house needs to be remodeled, Princess Rita Jenrette Boncompagni Ludovisi was forced to pack her bags and leave the building. After learning that a wall at the property had 'collapsed,' a judge agreed in their favour, photographs show that the property's roots appear to have knocked off a single slab of marble at the house. Caravaggio's only known celling has been painted at Villa Aurora, and the Princess denies that the house can be left in disrepair. She and her husband spent $11 million restoring the exterior of the house before opening its doors to the public and encouraging students to explore inside. They married in 2009 and spent in the house together until the death of Nicolo Boncompagni Ludovisi in 2018. It is the world's most expensive house, with photos illustrating the opulent interior of the house with paintings and artwork throughout every corner.

Jupiter overtakes Saturn for most moons in our solar system

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 8, 2023
The bulk of the recently discovered moons, according to astronomers at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, are small, ranging from 0.6 to 3.2 kilometers wide. Because the moons have a relatively low and retrograde orbit, they likely used to be classified as asteroids before being swallowed by Jupiter's gravity.

For the next few nights, Jupiter will be the closest it has been in 59 years in Australia

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 27, 2022
For the first time in almost 60 years, Jupiter (left) will land close to the Earth for the first time in nearly 60 years, with Australians expected to see the giant gas planet up close and personal at sunset, sunrise, and into the night for the coming weeks, but Tuesday is one of the best days to view the elusive planet. It will still be 591 million kilometers away, but not since October 1963 have stargazers had such a good chance to spot it in the night sky. Despite being one of the few planets that can be seen with the naked eye, NASA has still recommended using some sort of telescopic device to view it (right).
