Being selected for a place at an Olympic Games is an experience few of us are able to conceive of, and for many of the athletes currently competing in Paris, their two weeks in the Olympic village are a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But for a small handful of athletes, their time at the Games has been even more memorable - for the wrong reasons. Here, Mail Sport runs through the athletes and coaches that have been banished - or left under a cloud - from the Games during the scandal-packed fortnight in the French capital. 

A Brazilian swimmer who had been banished from the Olympic Games after sneaking out of the Athletes' Village with her boyfriend to 'go on a night out in Paris' has broken her silence on being sent home.  Ana Carolina Vieira and Gabriel Santos had allegedly been found trying to leave the Olympic Village. It came after she had crashed out of the 4x100m freestyle relay on Saturday - with Brazil placing seventh in the women's second heat.  The incident had occurred on July 26, with the 22-year-old leaving the village without permission. But when reprimanded for the indiscretion by the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carolina Vieira had allegedly abused them and was sent back home. 

An Olympic athlete has been banished from the Games after sneaking out of the Village to sample the Parisian nightlife. Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira hit the town without authorisation with her boyfriend, fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos, after her country crashed out of the 4X100m freestyle relay. The 22-year-old snuck out of the Village to meet up with Santos on July 26 without permission. According to Brazilian media, when pulled up on the indiscretion by the Brazilian Olympic Committee she abused them and was then swiftly sent on a flight back home.

Gomis weighed in at 143lb, 2lb off making weight for the Saturday bout at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro. He had been tipped for a strong fight having won his last 11 encounters, with an overall record of 13-2. Having seen two Gomis fights cancelled back-to-back, fans were looking forward to seeing him return to try and claim a fourth win inside the Octagon. However, he was wobbling on the scales and has left fans confused as to why he depleted himself so much.
