News about Frank Bough

Martin Tyler has been the voice of the Premier League in the Premier League, but he is not the No. 1 commentator

OLIVER HOLT: In the sea of lad-banter that is flooding back into football broadcasting, led by a couple of self-regarding BBC presenters whose goal is to see how loudly and often people can laugh at their own jokes, commentators like Martin Tyler and Peter Drury have risen from the flood like islands of luxury and erudition. That is not to say that there aren't already many talented football presenters around. Gary Lineker is a man whose screen presence acts as a welcome back to the halcyon days of Des Lynam, Dickie Davies, Frank Bough, and David Coleman.

How Selina Scott and Frank Bough, the BBC's presenting pair, HATED each other

On the face of it, they were the first act to make breakfast television a mainstay of families around the country. Selina Scott and Frank Bough (shown center, main image, and top right) spent three years on BBC's Breakfast Time, the forerunner to the corporation's recent morning news show, from its beginning in 1983. However, although they did seem to get along in front of the cameras, they did not get on with them in person, and Scott also spoke about how he managed to'undermine' her on television earlier this year. Bough, who she branded a'misogynist,' was a 'nightmare' to work with and even boasted about his manhood at work, prompting her to write a wide-ranging article in the Daily Mail about his antics. In 1986, the pair's professional relationship came to an end, when Scott accepted a new presenting role, two years before Bough was fired after being found to have seized cocaine with prostitutes in a Mayfair hotel. Fast forward nearly four decades to this month, and the nation has been gripped by Philip Schofield's departure from ITV's This Morning following the breakdown of his friendship with co-presenter Holly Willoughby (both pictured top right).

Step aside Holly and Phil there have been a whole host breakfast TV duo rifts

Eamonn Holmes and Anthea Turner's (pictured) smiles on GMTV in the mid-1990s turned out to be a front when their rift was revealed. Holmes referred to her as "Princess Tippytoes" and that it was alleged that he coerced Ms Turner to leave the ITV daytime show in 1996. On BBC's Breakfast Time show in 1983, Selina Scott and Frank Bough were first introduced. She claims he insulted her by interrupting mid-question, insisted on getting the last word in, and told her how well endowed she was.

Dickie Davies shed a light on British sport's shadowy and dramatic underbelly

On Saturday afternoon television in the late 1960s and early 1970s was a tumultuous affair; on the one hand, Frank Bough and the polish and gravitas of BBC's Grandstand came down to a single choice: on the one hand, or the quirkiness of Dickie Davies and ITV's World of Sport on the other. Both were excellent, but if the BBC were the more obvious crown jewels of sporting coverage, ITV would have opened windows into new worlds. Log-rolling and barrel-jumping were straight out of North American pioneer mythology, and cliff-diving had been something Elvis Presley liked doing in Fun in Acapulco and drag-racing featured futuristic vehicles with no parachutes derived from Apollo space mission splashdowns.

SELINA SCOTT: Why does it bother me that Frank Bough made my life a misery

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 19, 2023
SELINA SCOTT: I didn't have to worry twice about answering when the BBC asked me to attend its Breakfast show this week to celebrate its 40th anniversary celebrations. I politely declined. Despite the fact that I launched Breakfast Time in 1983 as the lead female anchor and became the face of the show for three years.

The long-running show is celebrating its 40th anniversary by uniting presenters

Former hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were joined by original presenters Debbie Rix, weatherman Francis Wilson, and astrologer Russell Grant, who appeared on the formerly named Breakfast Time, which first appeared on January 17, 1983. They also commemorated the occasion with the return of singer Leo Sayer, who was a guest on the first episode, and an aerobic workout in London's Waterloo station led by show's original health and fitness guru Diana Moran. "As the show's day one hosts, Frank Bough and Selina Scott, were lauded," Sayer praised the show's'such stars.' It was incredible to be interviewed by Selena Scott at that time.' She was the 'Princess Diana of television,' so it was very exciting to step into the studio.' According to the presenter, the show "started a movement that extended all around the world," with celebrities now having to wake up earlier to promote their careers. Since several of the television crews complained to him about having to get up so early in the morning, Nugent joked, 'It's not new anymore, but we still do it.' Moran, nicknamed the 'Green Goddess' during her time on the breakfast menu, was a pioneer in the fitness segment. Jayne McCubbin, a BBC Breakfast presenter, joined her at Waterloo station, where they relived a moment from the first episode when commuters were shocked by getting them up to do a few aerobics.

As it approaches its 40th birthday, BBC Breakfast's 40 best scenes from the show are included here

On BBC Breakfast, a group of current and former stars made their names, which is this month. Frank Bough and Selina Scott appeared on the show in 1983, while the likes of Kirsty Wark, Jeremy Paxman, and Fern Britton appeared in the 1980s. David Icke (inset on the show in 1983) a former footballer, appeared as a sports presenter on the show, before claiming that the world is run by lizard-like animals masquerading as world leaders. Diana Moran, the 'Green Goddess' fitness specialist, took to Royal Navy vessel HMS Brazen (top right) and put the entire ship's crew through a keep fit session. When Rod Hull and his 'Emu' arrived in the 1980s, they caused a riot (bottom right). Since the show was redesigned and rebranded in 2000, there have been some similar scenes, including when sports commentator Mike Bushell (left) plunged into a swimming pool while interviewing England's Commonwealth Games medalists in 2018.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Harry's blaming of William exposes his incapacity for independent thought

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 5, 2023
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Harry's shaming of William and Kate for reportedly endorsing his wearing of a Nazi uniform didn't just upset the Prince and Princess of Wales. Surely it also exposes Harry's incapacity for independent thought and his lack of a sense of history? At a fancy dress party hosted by William, he wore the offensive costume at a fancy dress party that had set the 'colonials and natives' theme. Prince Philip had disciplined both brothers over the affair.
