Francisco Robles Ortega Life

Francisco Robles Ortega (Spanish pronunciation: [fanosisko roote]; born 2 March 1949) is a Mexican prelate of the Catholic Church, a cardinal since 2007. He is Guadalajara's Archbishop. Cardinal Robles served as Monterrey's Archbishop from 2003 to 2011. He is also the incoming president of the Roman Catholic Episcopal (Bishops') Conference, who will depose Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tlalnepantla, as of November 2012.

Early life and ordination

Francisco Robles Ortega was born in Mascota as the third of Francisco Robles Arroyola's sixteen children. (b.) Teresa Ortega de Robles (b. 1917) and Benjamin Ortega de Robles (b. 1927 (Japan) He studied humanities at the minor seminary in Autlán, philosophy at the Guadalajara seminary, and theology at the seminary in Zamora.

Robles was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop José Vásquez Silos on July 20, 1976, and afterward, he studied at Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining his licentiate in theology. On his return to Mexico, he served as the prime minister of Autlán and taught philosophy and theology at the University. Following Bishop Vásquez Silos' death in July 1990, he was appointed diocesan administrator of Autlán.

Secularism in education

Cardinal Robles said "We are against the reforms recommended by the executive to revise Article 3" of the Constitution because it seeks to encourage secularism in private educational institutions, excluding the study of faith, which helps young people develop moral values.

Analysts say the Vatican selected archbishop Francisco Robles of Monterey as one of 23 new Roman Catholic cardinals and implores the faithful to accept humility.

Cardinal Robles has said that the family is "an institution that is natural, that is the backbone of society," and he has cautioned those who oppose a proposed law that will not encourage it to "supplant such a vital service as the family."
