A Florida fisherman who saved Cuban refugee Elián González Brotons after his mother fled with him to the US has reflected on the harrowing encounter 25 years later. On Thanksgiving Day 1999, Donato Dalrymple stumbled across five-year-old Elián floating alone in the ocean, in what would prove to be a fateful moment in US-Cuban history.
Aliens are already here and a threat to us all. The Pentagon is covering it up. And I have proof: The chilling warning of a former US intelligence officer with top-level security clearance

A powerfully built man who served in the US military in Afghanistan and Kuwait, and also ran anti-terrorism missions against Islamic State, Al Qaeda and Lebanese militants Hezbollah, Luis Elizondo doesn't seem like the type to scare easily. However, even he admits his 'blood ran cold' when his children reported seeing a green, glowing orb hovering in the air near them inside their family home in Maryland outside Washington DC. The three-dimensional ball was 'translucent and suffused with an eerie green light' and 'behaved as if guided by some intelligence', stopping dead still in the air before drifting off down a hallway and disappearing.

Donald Trump repeats two rumours in a caption to his new 'Save America' picture book - one asserting that Canadian PM Justin PM could be the child of Fidel Castro and another about the Rolling Stones. Trump writes that 'a lot of people say' that Trudeau is Castro's son, something the Canadian government has denied and that fact checkers have debunked. He says his mom Margaret would go 'clubbing' with the Rolling Stones, partially confirming a claim by his former aide that Trump told her she had slept with the band in the 1970s.

PETER HITCHENS: I wish I wasn't a tourist. I hate the word. If Spanish locals sprayed me with water pistols, I'd see their point
www.dailymail.co.uk,

I hate being a tourist. I know that, if I go to Paris or New York City , I become this awful thing. And I am secretly ashamed of what I do. If locals were to demonstrate against me, as they have against tourists in Majorca, or spray me with water pistols, as they have in Barcelona, I would see their point and shrug, rather guiltily as I hurried to the safety of my hotel.

Marilyn Monroe looked like Shirley Temple once more,' said the HUMPHREY Bogart, who made everybody from mogul Howard Hughes to tyrant Fidel Castro commotion with zeal and lust. But when Gina 'La Lollobrigida's life came to an end, her reminiscences were not what you'd expect from a Hollywood icon and sex symbol, but rather from a woman who looked back with regret. Although Gina confessed to a youth addiction, we now know that her last one robbed her blind. Andrea Piazzolla, 36, was sentenced to three years in jail for stealing millions from the actress before her death last year. Former US ambassador to Bolivia ADMITS being a Cuban spy for 40 years

Victor Manuel Rocha, 73, was arrested in December for what US officials described as "one of the highest-reaching and longest-lasting infiltrations of the US government by a foreign agent." Two weeks ago, Rocha pleaded not guilty of plotting to act as an agent of a foreign government, but he told Judge Beth Bloom at a pre-trial hearing on Thursday that he wanted to change his plea.
Meet George Galloway, the fedora-wearing, Pro-Gaza firebrand who gave Starmer a bloody nose: Four-times married new Rochdale MP boasts a love life as stormy as his political career (and pretended to be a milk-licking cat on Celebrity Big Brother)
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Sir Keir Starmer's landslide victory in Rochdale last night, which was another major change in his career. He is back in the big time after 18 years to the day, when he embraced Sir Jimmy Savile and embarrassed himself as he licked pretend milk out of actress Rula Lenska's hand. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas rages, Mr Galloway has won one of the most tumultuous by-elections in recent times by mainly attacking Muslim voters and being pro-Palestine. His only real goals seemed to be to return a maternity hospital and a Primark. Rochdale is the seventh parliamentary victory for the constituency-hopping politician. He has been married four times and had six children in those four decades. A king of choosing sides, often with a lot of controversies, is more likely to support President Putin's Russia and the Ayatollahs' Iran than those leading Britain. When Sergei Skripal was poisoned with Novichok in Salisbury, Galloway, Galloway, went on television to say that Russia should be on the 'bottom of the list' of suspects. He has worked for Labour, Independent Labour, Respect, and now the Workers Party of the United Kingdom, whose campaign literature has proclaimed that the fedora-hatted firebrand was a mentor to Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Yasser Arafat. Galloway's tour to Iraq's murderous tyrant Saddam Hussein in the 1990s sparked a lot of people, but he never claimed that his remarks were directed to the Iraqi civilians. And though Hussein and the rest of his comrades are dead, Galloway is still alive and kicking. 'George is important again,' one supporter said today.'

For the first time, Lavazza has reached an agreement to export Cuban coffee to the United Kingdom market
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Images of big cigars, classic American cars, revolution, rum, and Fidel Castro are among Cuba's favorites. Coffee is one of the Caribbean island's less well known beverages. Coffee growing has fallen since US President John F Kennedy instituted an economic recession on Castro's pro-Soviet government in early 1962, but there are hopes of a revival. The Lavazza agreement is part of a larger scheme to jumpstart the Cuban coffee industry, which has virtually disappeared under the embargo. At its high point in the 1950s, the plant was producing 50,000 tonnes a year. The most recent annual production figure is just over 8,000 tonnes.

Juanita Castro, Fidel Castro's younger sister, died at the age of 90, more than 60 years after she disappeared from her homeland. ALISON BOSHOFF: James Franco piles on the pounds to play Cuban leader Fidel Castro in an unlikely return to the spotlight after a sex scandal

ALISON BOSHOFF: James Franco (left), 45, is currently in Naples, where filming of Fidel Castro's (right) illegitimate daughter Alina Fernandez is imminent. As this picture shows, Franco seems to be gearing up for the role of the revolutionary communist: growing an untidy beard and broadening his frame. It's certainly a change of image from previous appearances, which also included appearances of late Hollywood heartthrob James Dean. Franco of California is of Portuguese and Swedish descent, and his mother has Russian Jewish roots. Franco's demeanor, according to producer John Martinez O'Felan of Mankind Entertainment, makes him the perfect match to play Castro, whose father is Spanish-born.

According to The Wall Street Journal, China and Cuba have signed a clandestine deal to establish the base, quoting authorities "with highly classified intelligence." According to the paper, Beijing had promised to pay cash-strapped Cuba several billions of dollars to allow it to expand the plant, and that, at this time, an agreement had been reached 'in principle.' Washington faces a new geopolitical challenge as it battles with China's increasing global prominence.

Barbara Walters biggest interviews: Legend interviewed everyone from Monica Lewinsky to Donald Trump
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 31, 2022
Barbara Walters was a pioneer in American broadcast journalism long before she died on December 30 at the age of 93. Walters said in a 2014 address to Harvard University that the journalist's most important attribute was curiosity. Throughout her career, she demonstrated this skill, especially when she interviewed the day's most popular newsmakers. In 1999, Monica Lewinsky's interview with Bill Clinton smashed TV ratings for a news special, prompting him to apologize to Hillary. Years before, she was one of the first journalists to bring Donald Trump to justice for mistaking his credentials in real estate. Walters' interviews were not conducted in an air conditioned studio; in 1977, she spent ten days in the mountains of Cuba interviewing Fidel Castro, gaining his respect to the point that many suspected there were an affair when they weren't.
