CHRIS WHEELER, NATHAN SALT and LIAM MORGAN: Erik ten Hag is urging his players to be nastier as part of a three-pronged plan to improve Manchester United's performances this season. United have got off to a difficult start, suffering back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Liverpool after opening the campaign by beating Fulham at Old Trafford. It follows a summer in which Ten Hag kept his job despite sweeping changes of the football operation at United, and identified three areas where he wants his team to step up this season.

Manchester United have confirmed Facundo Pellistri's sale to Panathinaikos for £5.1m with £1.7m in add-ons to take the total transfer fee to £6.8m. The deal includes a 45 per cent sell-on clause, while United also have a buy-back option until 2027. United confirmed the move on their official website on Wednesday evening after negotiating with the Greek club for a number of days over a transfer fee.

SIMON JONES: Serie A side Napoli want to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay on loan - but United will only countenance a sale. McTominay has been linked with the Old Trafford exit and Antonio Conte's Napoli are wanting to bring the Scotland international in for the campaign.  McTominay has just one year remaining on his contract with United, although the club has the option to extend it for a further 12 months.

The 19-year-old, who was part of United's FA Youth Cup winning side in 2021-22, was born in Salford but qualifies to play for Poland owing to his mother. He has been with United since joining their academy from Burnley as an eight-year-old and progressed through the ranks. He had an impressive loan spell with Altrincham in 2022-23 where he scored four goals in 12 games and was promoted to train with United's first team squad on his return.

CHRIS WHEELER: Kobbie Mainoo stayed away from Manchester United 's training base in Los Angeles despite holidaying in the Californian city during their stay, but he couldn't resist dropping in to say hello before his teammates left for South Carolina on Friday. Mainoo watched part of United's final training session at the University of California campus and then caught up with the rest of the squad afterwards. The United squad also took time out to thank the staff at UCLA for their hospitality over the last two weeks and pose for a photo with them before travelling cross country to Columbia where they play Liverpool at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.
