United have got off to a difficult start, suffering back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Liverpool after opening the campaign by beating Fulham at Old Trafford. It follows a summer in which Ten Hag kept his job despite sweeping changes of the football operation at United, and identified three areas where he wants his team to step up this season.

Mainoo watched part of United's final training session at the University of California campus and then caught up with the rest of the squad afterwards. The England midfielder will return to training early next week along with the other international players who featured in the latter stages of the Euros and Copa America including Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes , Diogo Dalot , Alejandro Garnacho , Lisandro Martinez , Altay Bayindir and Facundo Pellistri. The 20-year-old made only one appearance but his time spent on international duty has seen him miss out on the Red Devils' pre-season tour of the United States. Garnacho is joined on his break by his club team-mate Facundo Pellistri. And the pair sent some fans into a frenzy with a post following an intense training session.

CHRIS WHEELER: It was only a matter of time before we saw evidence of Sir Dave Brailsford's marginal gains at Manchester United, and the former British Cycling supremo's fingerprints are all over the measures being taken to help players avoid jet lag and aid their performance in the early stages of the US tour. United's physical performance team have prepared a detailed plan so the squad can recover from the 11-hour flight and adapt to the eight-hour time difference as quickly as possible. When the United contingent arrived at their hotel early on Wednesday evening, they went for dinner and the players were kept up as late as possible before going to sleep.

Uruguay beats Brazil on penalties after brutal battle - that saw 41 FOULS and a red card - in Las Vegas to reach Copa America semifinals and set up showdown against Colombia

It was an absolutely ugly match. Neither side played well enough to deserve a goal in regular time, and for the third time in the Copa America quarterfinals, the match went to penalties. A combined four yellow cards and one red card betrayed the 41 fouls shared between Uruguay and Brazil in a match where skill and scoring gave way to brazen brutality. But one team had to win, and that team was Uruguay - who reach the final four for the first time since 2011.

Man United SEASON PLAYER RATINGS: Who overcame their 'nightmare-ish moments'? Which 'slow and ponderous' star must move on? Who scored 2/10? And who's the surprising - but deserving - player of the season?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 28, 2024
There's no such thing as a quiet season at Manchester United but this one has been especially eventful both on and off the field. Their Premier League campaign was a disaster with Erik ten Hag's side finishing a lowly eighth - their worst performance in 34 years. European ambitions were done and dusted by Christmas. But the FA Cup offered salvation with Saturday's hugely impressive victory over rivals Man City ensuring the campaign ended on a high note, even if it may not spare Ten Hag the sack. The club also entered a new era with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS confirming their part buy-out on Christmas Eve, wasting no time in shaking things up behind the scenes. With the season now over, Mail Sport's NATHAN SALT offers his assessment of every United player who featured in five or more Premier League games.
Man United need a summer shake-up to refresh a squad that is miles off competing for the top prizes with EIGHTEEN players - and under-fire Erik ten Hag - on the chopping block
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 22, 2024
Manchester United's penalty shootout FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City brought more questions than answers - both in terms of Erik ten Hag and his players. This has been a season riddled by mistakes on and off the pitch for United and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team now assuming control of football operations, a summer shake-up feels inevitable. United are looking to raise £100million through player sales and for some shown the door that will mean accepting a sizeable loss on their initial transfer outlay. Mail Sport runs through Manchester United's squad to work out who stays and who goes.

It has been another season of struggle for the Red Devils this term, having failed to build on their third-place finish last term in their second season under Erik ten Hag. www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 19, 2024
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has confirmed that he and his Ineos staff will not turn Manchester United backwards by investing money on football's top stars. Ratcliffe's £1.3 billion minority takeover of the club has seen him, as well as Sir Dave Brailsford, take over football operations at Old Trafford and recruitment is a subject that the club is keen to address. Eyebrows have been raised as a result of the large sums invested on players like Casemiro (£70 million) and Antony (£86 million) and Ratcliffe's (£86 million) and Ratcliffe are keen to take a new tactic in order to restore the team's reign.

According to the Manchester Evening News, attention is now shifting to the playing staff, and United is prepared to offload at least 10 players at the end of the season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe to sanction significant Man United transfer spend this summer as financial restrictions ease with THREE positions targeted… and they could sell a number of high-profile stars
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 22, 2024
With the club's financial constraints easing and a number of player signings planned, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is likely to rule out a significant transfer investment at Manchester United this summer. Since completing his £1.2 billion investment in a chat with Mail Sport yesterday, the INEOS owner outlined improving recruiting as his top priority, and Old Trafford's summer is anticipated, with United no longer in danger of breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules [PSR]. United were unable to sign any new players during the January transfer window due to PSR limitations, but the club will have more room for manoeuvre as the accounting period resumes on July 1.
FFP rules were enforced by Erik Ten Hagham after Manchester United were unable to make any new signings during the January transfer window and were forced to offload 13

After Manchester United had to offload 13 players in January without being able to make any new signings, Erik ten Hag has bemoaned FFP policies. The United boss decided to reduce his team, offloading mainly fringe players. Despite spending over £410 million since taking over, Ten Hage in Rasmus Hojlund has only one recognized fit striker, as FFP restrictions prevented him from obtaining a new one last month. United's Jadon Sancho, Alvaro Fernandez, Facundo Pellistri, Joe Hugill, Maxi Oyedele, Rhys Bennett, Dan Gore, Radek Vitek, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, and Sonny Aljofree have all passed away in January, whether on loan or permanently.

TRANSFER CONFIDENTIAL: Michael Edwards' return to Liverpool would make perfect sense, and Man United are trying to bind down a young celebrity, while Chelsea's £60 million price tag for Conor Gallagher puts the club off, although clubs are dissatisfied with the Chelsea's £60 million price tag for Conor Gallagher

SIMON JONES: Jurgen Klopp's pending departure, as well as sports director Jorg Schmadtke, has sparked a never ending discussion about how Liverpool will recover. One of the most common comments around Anfield is that it would be a good idea to tempt the club's former sports director Michael Edwards back to a new role. Edwards left Liverpool just over a year ago and was regarded as the brains behind Liverpool's impressive recruiting process. He's since founded Ludonautics, alongside Liverpool's former director of research Ian Graham, who is now working with a Premier League club and forming a Bolton Wanderers partnership last week.
