Eric Kyle Szmanda (born July 24, 1975) is an American actor.
He is best known for his role in the CBS police drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, a position he held from 2000 to 2015.
Early life and education
Szmanda was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Elaine (née Enders) and Donald Szmanda, and he has two brothers, Brett and Robert. Ray Szmanda, his great-uncle, was nicknamed "Menard's Guy" by a Midwest celebrity known for his voluminous advertisements for Menard's, a chain of hardware stores.
The family moved to Mukwonago, Wisconsin, when Eric was very young. He attended Mukwonago High School and later Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. While attending college, he began gaining marketing internships with music conglomerate BMG and then moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work full-time in the music industry.
Szmanda attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California, for four years.
Career
Szmanda appeared in The Net, a series based on the 1995 film of the same name, in his first appearance on television.
Szmanda began acting as Greg Sanders, a DNA technician and investigator, in the CBS crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in the first two seasons. In the third season, he was then added to the main cast. He remained on the show until it came to an end in September 2015 after the fifteenth season was over.
