Elvira Lindo Life

Elvira Lindo, a Spanish journalist and writer, was born in Cádiz, Spain, on January 23rd. Lindo left Madrid at the age of 12 to study journalism at Complutense University of Madrid.

She did not earn her degree until she began to work in television and radio as a speaker, actress, and script writer.

Manolito Gafotas, one of her fictional radio characters, was based on her first book, which has since been adapted into a Spanish children's literature classic.

Manolito is the son of a trucker who lives in Carabanchel's working-class neighborhood.

The protagonist of several first-person novels published in a well-defined style that also included humour, irony, and sarcastic social criticism. Lindo has also written adult books and plays; she is the screenwriter of the film La primera noche vida; and she has worked with director Miguel Albaladejo on the screenplays for Manolito Gafotas and Ataque verbal.

Antonio Muoz Molina, her husband's wife, also adapted Plenilunio from the book. Lindo has lived in New York City ever since her husband Antonio Muoz Molina was appointed director of the Instituto Cervantes of New York City.

She works for El Pas, a Spanish-language newspaper, and freelances for other magazines and newspapers.
