David Emanuel settles High Court row with his ex Elizabeth over Princess Diana's wedding dress that stunned the world in 1981

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2024
The two designers of Princess Diana's wedding dress have settled a High Court battle over the auctioning of drawings of their designs. David Emanuel sued his ex-wife and business partner Elizabeth Emanuel over alleged copyright infringement nearly four years ago. He claimed she reproduced sketches of their designs for Diana, including the gown she wore to marry Prince Charles in 1981, and put them up for sale without his consent.

Sixty-three of Princess Diana's show-stopping outfits on what would have been her 63rd birthday... including the dress that sent a clear message to Camilla

When Diana Spencer became engaged to Prince Charles, she confessed to having only 'one long dress, one silk shirt, one smart pair of shoes, and that was it'. Consequently, she hurriedly purchased 'six of everything' ahead of her royal wedding in 1981. On the big day, the bride made her grand entrance at St Paul's Cathedral in an ivory silk taffeta and antique lace gown (left), featuring a 25-foot train, by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. For a Christmas church service at Sandringham in 1990, Diana wore this show-stopping two-tone set by Moschino (second from left). In October 1985, the Princess again wore a dress (second form right) that was part of a line designed by Charles's former lover, Dale Tyron. And in 1994, she famously wore what became known as the 'Revenge Dress' (right) on the same night Charles confessed to his affair with Camilla.

Now the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland, which purchased it at Kerry Taylor Auctions on June 8, 2010, is planning to sell the blouse. Diana is too young to remember. But her iconic revenge dress saved me from the agony of anorexia

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 2, 2023
ALICE HARE: My spine was shivering when I saw it in a glass case at Sotheby's. Scoff if you like, but in some respects, Diana's fabled 'black sheep' jumper, ladening with symbolism and first worn in 1981, saved my life. It goes under the hammer in September in New York, where it is expected to sell for £40,000 to £70,000, a symbol of royal fashion, according to the show at the auction house in Central London. I can't recall Diana's death, much less her life. But when I discovered that an eating disorder - bulimia - had ruined many years of her childhood, starting the week after her engagement. For me, an eating disorder — anorexia — and I, too, believed in the power of clothes in a world where fashion is often thought of as less than trivia.
