According to a study by a human rights group, an Alabama death row prisoner was subjected to three hours of torture during his execution, the longest documented lethal injection procedure in US history. Joe Nathan James Jr., 50, was found guilty and sentenced to death for his mother, Faith Hall, 26, in Birmingham, 1994. Officials at the Atmore, Alabama, correctional facility took between three and half hours to carry out James' lethal injection, according to a report by Reprieve.
