EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: He has a hereditary peerage, numbers two prime ministers in his family tree, and is a member of White's, the best of gentlemen's clubs. However, none of this has stopped the Earl of Balfour from receiving a drubbing in an extraordinary High Court lawsuit. It has, according to me, concluded with the judge directing that $1 million [£800,000] be returned to one of Balfour's clients, Belen Velutini, the oldest member of a wealthy Venezuelan banking family that is now afflicted by poor health and failing eyesight. Balfour, who was selected last year as one of the United Kingdom's top 'offshore experts for high-net-worth individuals,' may be embroiled enough. However, it's overshadowed by the judge's concise summary of the case.
