SIMON JONES: Wolfsburg will pay £43 million to Tottenham target Micky Van de Vene. For some time, the Netherlands U21 star has been on the radar of Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and has held positive discussions with the Bundesliga team this week. Spurs have given the Netherlands U21 star £30 million plus-ons, but the duo's lawyer had hoped that this would be enough to guarantee his employment.

On Wednesday, the 18-year-old underwent his medical examination and will join Postecoglou's squad for the remaining stages of their pre-season tour in Australia and South East Asia if all goes as expected. Last year, Phillips had a breakout campaign, winning eight times as a result of six appearances in all competitions. The highly rated defender has appeared on numerous junior teams over the past two years.
