Providence, Rhode Island, JAKE FENNER: The Protective Care of God is referred to in the dictionary as 'the safeguard care of God.' A quick glance at a thesaurus reveals at least ten different words or phrases that mean the same thing. So when Ed Cooley stood on a podium at Georgetown University over the summer and said it was "divine providence" that caused him to leave Providence College, he knew exactly what he was doing. He may have predicted that 'god's will's destiny' or 'fate'. But no. He had to announce provisionnce. After all, when you go from PC's savior to Judas in the Big East, why not mention the name of the place you were born, the address you called home for the majority of your life, and, of course, the school you attended for 12 years. Cooley had to face the music in a return to the most awaited regular season basketball game this year. Devin Carter made sure the Friar faithful went home happy with a 29 point victory over his former coach 84-76.

After students began lining up in the early hours of the morning to say 'welcome' to former PC head coach Ed Cooley and the Hoyas of Georgetown, security appeared to be having a rough time retaining order.

Providence has recruited Kim English as its next basketball coach, swiftly replacing Ed Cooley after he left to work at Big East rival Georgetown. English is the 16th coach in school history. Cooley resigned from Providence on Monday after 12 seasons. He set a 242-153 record with the Friars, but only three March Madness victories. In two seasons at George Mason, the 34-year-old English was 34-29, leading the Patriots to a 20-13 record this season. It was the first time the school had reached the 20-win milestone since 2016-17.

Big East: How the conference reincarnated itself 10 years on from 'death' of original

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 11, 2023
JAKE FENNER of MADISON SQUARE GARDEN: The original Big East Conference is dead, but it will never die. The 'old' Big East Conference held its final tournament this week, with all of its founding members (except UConn). It was the last time basketball fans in the United States would see some of the most legendary programs in the world's Most Popular Arena: Madison Square Garden, the Mecca of College Basketball, in the United States. The Big East Conference combined some of America's top college basketball programs into one supergroup that represented flashiness, brutality, and beauty, which was never to be overflowing. Some people were defiant to the heat when the conference began in 2013.

UConn flies to the Big East Tournament semifinals after losing to Providence on a wild comeback

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 9, 2023
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN JAKE FENNER: A grudge match was promised, but they weren't over yet. Providence and UConn had two very different outcomes in their two regular-season matchups, and things had to be decided with a third game on Thursday afternoon. In their two regular season matchups, the two bitter rivals were separated by less than 60 miles of US Route 44 through the densely woodested north of Rhode Island and the eastern Connecticut countryside exchanged heavy blows to each other. What a better place to throw another than the country's best boxing venue. Providence won by 73-61 at Amica Mutual Pavilion in front of an incendiary audience. The Huskies regained power in front of a raucous, $2 beer fueled fanbase at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs by an 87-69 victory.
