Providence beat Georgetown 84-76 for its ignitious return to his home state

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 27, 2024
Providence, Rhode Island, JAKE FENNER: The Protective Care of God is referred to in the dictionary as 'the safeguard care of God.' A quick glance at a thesaurus reveals at least ten different words or phrases that mean the same thing. So when Ed Cooley stood on a podium at Georgetown University over the summer and said it was "divine providence" that caused him to leave Providence College, he knew exactly what he was doing. He may have predicted that 'god's will's destiny' or 'fate'. But no. He had to announce provisionnce. After all, when you go from PC's savior to Judas in the Big East, why not mention the name of the place you were born, the address you called home for the majority of your life, and, of course, the school you attended for 12 years. Cooley had to face the music in a return to the most awaited regular season basketball game this year. Devin Carter made sure the Friar faithful went home happy with a 29 point victory over his former coach 84-76.

Students TRAMPLE over each other in an attempt to enter the arena after lining up outside since 7 a.m., leading to tumultuous scenes as students TRAMPLE over each other in the hopes of getting to the arena

Fans of Providence College were yelling over each other as they attempted to reach the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday, triggering ugly scenes before the grudge match against Georgetown on Saturday. Before one of the season's most awaited college basketball games, images showed students dropping down from the weight of their Friars. After students began lining up in the early hours of the morning to say 'welcome' to former PC head coach Ed Cooley and the Hoyas of Georgetown, security appeared to be having a rough time retaining order.

Providence appoints Kim English as its new basketball coach

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 23, 2023
Providence has recruited Kim English as its next basketball coach, swiftly replacing Ed Cooley after he left to work at Big East rival Georgetown. English is the 16th coach in school history. Cooley resigned from Providence on Monday after 12 seasons. He set a 242-153 record with the Friars, but only three March Madness victories. In two seasons at George Mason, the 34-year-old English was 34-29, leading the Patriots to a 20-13 record this season. It was the first time the school had reached the 20-win milestone since 2016-17.
