The 52-year-old wore a smart suit and appeared to be having a great time - laughing, smiling and joking with a group of friends in the front row of the VIP section. Carr is known to be friends with QPR co-owner Amit Bhatia, although it is not known who invited him or whether he supports either team in last night's game. He took his seat just after kick-off at 7.45pm, then returned to the indoor hospitality area at half-time - before remerging about ten minutes into the second half. Carr then left around 9.30pm shortly before the end of the match, which saw Eagles star Eberechi Eze score and provide an assist on his return to former club QPR.

Manchester United are reportedly keeping an eye on Eberechi Eze ahead of a possible move for the Crystal Palace star next summer. Eze, 26, has shone at Selhurst Park ever since joining Palace from QPR in 2020, with the attacking midfielder working his way into the England squad following his impressive performances. He was part of the Three Lions' group at Euro 2024 and many were left surprised that the 26-year-old didn't move in the summer window, although Palace sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich for £50million.

Mail Sport revealed in June that the England international had the buy-out price - made up of an initial £60million plus a further £8m in add-ons - included in the three-and-a-half year contract he signed with the Selhurst Park club last November. But following a summer of uncertainty surrounding Eze's future amid initial interest from England's top clubs, the clause elapsed ahead of the Premier League campaign as the attacker remained at Selhurst Park.

KIERAN GILL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE: Glanser's video nasty helped Crystal Palace come from behind to frustrate Chelsea, with the Austrian showing his players clips of where they were going wrong during the half-time break at Stamford Bridge. Palace boss Glasner leaned on his analysts to come up with the footage so that he could correct their mistakes before the second half. Palace posed much more of a threat after that video session.

KIERAN GILL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE: Chelsea had wasted enough chances that when Eberechi Eze picked up possession 20 yards from goal, a feeling of inevitability fell over Stamford Bridge. The curler was out of Robert Sanchez's reach and with that, Enzo Maresca was denied his first Premier League win at home. For all the talent to walk through the door, with Jadon Sancho the latest big name to arrive on a season-long loan from Manchester United, it is hard not to scrutinise who Chelsea failed to land after leaving as disappointed as they did yesterday. Namely the superstar striker who could have made sure they won this match, their negotiations with Napoli's Victor Osimhen ultimately leading nowhere even as they continued deep into deadline day.  Nicolas Jackson is a player full of promise, hence why he is set to sign a contract extension until 2033 as a reward for the progress made in his first Premier League season. Opta's supercomputer has delivered its match predictions for this weekend's second round of Premier League fixtures and believes Brighton have a better chance of beating Manchester United at the Amex Stadium this on Saturday lunchtime. The 2024-25 Premier League season got off to a bang last weekend, with plenty of talking points rising out of a bumper opening round of fixtures. VAR was once again a hot topic, with Everton fans bemoaning the system following their 3-0 defeat against Brighton at Goodison Park, after the video referee system ruled out a penalty chance. Eberechi Eze also had a free-kick disallowed by the system during Crystal Palace's 2-1 defeat against Brentford.

Eze thought he had put Palace ahead in the first half when his long-range strike deceived Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken at his near post. But Barrott blew his whistle for a foul in the box before the ball hit the net , with the official deeming Will Hughes had pushed defender Nathan Collins to the floor. Replays showed there was minimal, if any, contact from Hughes. There was a brief VAR check but, because Barrott had blown his whistle before the ball had crossed the line, it was not possible to overturn the decision.

The Crystal Palace faithful had reason to be aggrieved when Eze's impressive free-kick goal, crashing in off the post, was denied due to a scuffle in the box. Referee Samuel Barrott felt that Palace's Will Hughes had fouled Nathan Collins and blew up for a foul with the ball in mid-flight. The decision sparked intense scrutiny at half-time from the Sky Sports pundits who felt, as lots of viewers did, that there had been no foul at all.
