Don McPherson Life

Donald G. McPherson, a retired National Football League and Canadian Football League quarterback, was born on April 2, 1965.

He played for seven seasons in football and CFL, with the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Oilers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Ottawa Rough Riders. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1988 after completing a college career at Syracuse University, where he won the Maxwell Award, the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, and finished second in 1987 Heisman Trophy voting.

He has also played for the Houston Oilers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Ottawa Rough Riders.

His accomplishments during his time at Syracuse compelled him to be inducted into the NCAA College Football Hall of Fame on May 1, 2008. McPherson joined the Northeastern University's Center for Sport in Society in 1994 before becoming the first executive director of Adelphi University's Sports Leadership Institute.

He has founded numerous outreach and mentoring programs and regularly speaks on college campuses as a gender critiquer, as well as contributing to "gendered violence" such as domestic violence, stalking, and rape.

He has testified before the United States House of Representatives hearings. McPherson, the younger brother of former NFL star and pastor Miles McPherson, is now a college football commentator for Big East football on regional sports cable television network SportsNet New York.
