LEWIS STEELE: It might be a fortnightly occurrence in 2024 but the scene is a stunned Old Trafford last month. Luis Diaz had just scored two goals in seven minutes to put Liverpool firmly in control of Arne Slot 's first trip to bitter rivals Manchester United , leaving home fans speechless again. Up in the away corner, those who made the short jaunt to Manchester from Merseyside were beginning a journey through the full repertoire of chants from the Kop songbook. No anthem was belted out with more ferocity than their ode to Diaz. 'His name is Lucho, he came from Porto,' it goes, to the tune of Bella Ciao, the folk song dedicated to the partisans of the Italian resistance. 'He came to score, came to score… came to score, score, score. He's Luis Diaz, he's from Barrancas… and he plays for Liverpool.'

For the once-mighty Magyars, merely competing at European football's top table is a feat they no longer take for granted after pain of wilderness years
www.dailymail.co.uk,

THE fact that Hungary require an extraordinary turn of events to qualify for the knock-out round is not quite how their legions of followers anticipated Euro 2024 unfolding.
Yet, none present in the MHPArena in Stuttgart tomorrow will ever blithely dismiss the achievement of simply competing at this level again.
For fully three decades, a country credited with revolutionising the game in the 1950s with their prototype Total Football found itself in international exile, a perennial spectator whenever the great summer festivals began.

German captain, Ilkay Gundogan, then made it 2-0 in the second half with 20 minutes left, finishing off a well-worked move. The result will add momentum behind the belief that this year's European Championship could offer Germans their first major international trophy since 2014.

A host of football's fastest players have descended on Germany for Euro 2024 this month - and the best sprinter among them has now been revealed. Instead, a centre back has taken the top spot, forcing several blistering forwards to settle for places further down the rankings. Other shock names are also above them. The fastest speed racked up by a player competing at the tournament this summer came in at an impressive 37.38km/h, also the Premier League's fastest sprint.

www.dailymail.co.uk,

Fans noticed Breel Embolo suffered a wardrobe malfunction after the Switzerland forward came off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over Hungary at Euro 2024. Switzerland continued to press forward throughout the opening 45 minutes and Michel Aebischer doubled their lead on the brink of half-time by netting a curling strike from outside the box.

The answer involves chicken noodle soup, 50 Cent, poker, language-learning app Duolingo, and a bit of good, old-fashioned fortune. EURO 2024 TEAM GUIDE - Hungary: Belief is back after going unbeaten since 2022 and thrashing England 4-0... but is there more to them than Dominik Szoboszlai?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 3, 2024
The Magyarok are on a 14-game unbeaten streak stretching back to September 2022. Their last tournament, the 2022-23 Nations League , saw them beat England twice - including a 4-0 trouncing at Molineux - defeat Germany once, and finish second in a group also containing reigning European champions Italy. Headlines will naturally gravitate towards Dominik Szoboszlai, but look out for goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and defender Willi Orban, long-time servants of the RB Leipzig revolution, as well as Freiburg winger Roland Sallai, scorer of fantastic goals. Oh, and, er, Callum Styles, a Bury lad and Barnsley full-back who has never played his club football outside England, doesn't speak Hungarian, and only found out that his grandmother was from there in 2020.
Liverpool's desperation against their top-six rivals has been laid bare by incredible statistics, and if they're lucky to Arsenal and Manchester City, they could face them for the Premier League title
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 8, 2024
If Liverpool are to miss out on the Premier League this season, it could be attributed to their inefficiency in front of goal against the remaining teams in the top ten. On Sunday, the Red Devils took the highest number of shots at Old Trafford on record, after previously having 34 attempts when the two teams clashed at Anfield in December. However, despite having a huge 62 points spread over the two games, they only scored two goals as a result of their goalless match at Anfield on Sunday.
