Dominik Feri (born 11 July 1996) is a Czech politician, member of the liberal conservative TOP 09 party and an adviser of Karel Schwarzenberg.
He is the youngest member of the Chamber of Deputies in the history of the Czech Republic following the 2017 legislative election.
He has been a member of the city council of his native town, Teplice, since November 2014 while studying secondary school.
Early life
Feri was born in Kadaň, northwestern Bohemia, and grew up in Teplice District. His mother is from eastern Bohemia, and Feri is also partly of Ethiopian origin. From 2007 to 2015 he studied in a grammar school in Teplice. His first appearance in media was because of his public activities in Teplice. In 2015 he became a student of Faculty of Law at the Charles University in Prague.
Personal life
Feri plays accordion and piano. He stated that his opinions are close to those of the Czech Pirate Party.
In May 2022, Feri was hospitalized after apparent suicide attempt, whereby he self-inflicted cut wounds to his arms and belly.
Political career
During the 2014 municipal elections, he ran as an outsider on the liberal-conservative party TOP 09 to the Council of Representatives in Teplice, although he wasn't elected, he became the first deputy candidate for the position despite his youth. Feri took the office and became one of nine members of City Council, which was led by mayor Jaroslav Kubera, after the leader of the candidate list Petr Msc resigned. He entered the TOP 05 Party in May 2015.
He was listed on the last place of the candidate list in District of Prague, 2016 Czech provincial elections, following his defeat in the 2016 Czech regional elections. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on October 21. Feri is considered by German magazine Die Welt to be a successful and promising pro-European politician.
Feri was assaulted at a wine tasting event in Borice, Moravia, in April 2019. Feri told reporters that the attackers yelled at him, "niggers do not belong in politics," but that accusation was not repeated during a formal police investigation. The criminal charges against the perpetrators, who were fined Feri CZK 1.000 (USD 40) in damages for a torn shirt, were conditionally suspended.
